than the other one i’ve been to doctor to get it checked cos it started when i had a sore throat and she reckons it’s a cronic infection. can it be cured? she said i might have to get my tonsils out, is this bad what effect will it have on me what do tonsils do?
Mrs. Hardware had her tonsils removed a couple of years ago. She kept having tonsil stones. (Basically, gross crud in a pocket of the tonsil.) Every few weeks she would get a sore throat, and kept running a low fever. The surgery was quick and routine, with about a week or so of eating soft food. After the surgery recovery, no more sore throats. My tonsils were removed when I was a kid, and I’ve never missed them.
This is the kind of question that is best asked of your medical provider. We can’t say, “Open your mouth and say ‘AHH’.”
They’re part of the immune system. They’re a place where your immune cells meet foreign stuff in your body. But there are plenty of other places where the same thing happens, so losing them is no big deal.
I get some tonsil infections now and then. I don’t know exactly how large yours are swelled or how bad, so you might have to have them removed, but here’s what I do.
First, I brush my teeth and tongue vigorously, twice if necessary. I want my mouth, as much as possible, to be as clean.
Then I take some 3% hydrogen peroxide and dilute it with water 1:1. I gargle with it. Over and over until a regular sized glass is gone.
Then (get ready) I find some sort of not-sharp tool and try and dig infection out. Yuck, I know, but you can see much of it from the hydrogen peroxie, and it seems to develop in little pockets on the back of your throat. Mush it around, try and dig, but I get some out.
Gargle again.
Then live life for a while, and later in the day I do the whole thing again. If I don’t see any obvious infection I don’t go digging for it, but usually I see some pus here or there and I go after it. (I’ve found cotton swabs are workable for this, and I dip them in the hydrogen peroxide before I go digging)
I have never found a medical opinion on this agressive behavior, but I’ve eliminated sore throats like this very often.
