Help! Outlook won't send!

My husband wanted to know if you could help with a problem. For a few months now, he hasn’t been able to send any email from his laptop using Microsoft Outlook. He can receive messages, but in order to send he has to go to the website. He can, however, send email from Microsoft Outlook on the computer at work, which is set up in the exact same way, same internet service provider even, with no problems. His email is through myrealbox.com, and the computer is a little Toshiba laptop. I’m trying to send something right now, to see what the error message is, but it’s taking forever. Oh, here it is:

Server Response: ‘500 Unsupported command.’. (Account:xxxxxxxxxxx, SMTP Server: ‘smtp.myrealbox.com’, Error Number:0x800ccc62).

I have no idea what that means. Can you help?

Sounds vaguely like he has the account details from his work entered into the application (Outlook) on the laptop but has different account details for the home account. Check to see if the two accounts are, in fact, with the same ISP and are the same account with the same dial-in number, login and the rest.

Is his computer using Norton AntiVirus? If the outgoing email scanning feature is enabled, sometimes it can cause this error in communicating with the outgoing email server. Try disabling outgoing email scanning.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! We turned off the outgoing mail scan on Norton, and our messages sent again! My husband now agrees that the SDMB is, in fact, a wonderful thing. Thank you, thankyouthankyou!!
