Help Save the Publix Deli Dinner!

Attention Publix Shoppers!

Many of you who shop at Publix have come to enjoy the Publix Deli’s offering of complete hot meals. Savory Macaroni and Cheese, Mashed Potatoes and grave, vegetables, cobbler, biscuts, you name it, they’ll slap it in a tray for you, along with the best fried chicken around. Do you realize these meals are an endangered species? Because of corporate profit concerns, Publix plans to discontinue their hot dinners, reverting only to fried chicken. New stores in fact, do not serve hot vegetable already, and they are slowly phasing them out of the older stores. Are we going to stand aside while they allow this to continue?

If you enjoy the deli dinners, please voice your concerns to:

In case you believe this to be some freaky mundane urban legend, I’d like to point out several things:

  1. I’m writing this myself, not forwarding a message.
  2. I happen to work for Publix, and know that this is happening firsthand.
  3. If I were going to create an urban legend, it would involve, AIDS, Kidneys, Bright headlights, and serial killers, and certainly not something like Publix Macaroni and cheese.

I know it’s not a UL. My local stores stopped carrying anything but fried chicken a while back.

Hey, the Chairman of the Executive Committee lives two houses downs from me. You think it would help if I talked to him?

Also, I’ll see the President’s wife at a bridal shower next Thursday night. Think I could mention it to her.

I’m not kidding.

Aww, my grandfather used to work for Publix in FL (I still have his aprons!)… I’m sure he’s rollin’ in his grave as we speak!

Golfwidow: Yes, please do. Please make it clear that my store is losing customers by doing this. Here is a far too common scenario:

Customer: I’d like to get an 8 piece mix of fried chicken.

Me: Yes sir.

Customer (as I’m putting the chicken in a box): Where are the vegetables?

Me: I’m sorry sir, we don’t have them at this store. The Killearn store and Mahan store both have them. They’re each about 5 minutes away.

Customer: Thank you. Don’t worry about the chicken.

The customer leaves to find a full service Deli at one of the other stores.

Former Publix employee checking in here…

The prepared foods at Publix are a lot better than at the Giant or Safeway delis up here, so I hope for the sake of our Floridian dopers (and my family down there) that they stay open.

Not to mention the meals are a great value. $3.50 for a dinner that will fill you up for hours.

Corporate decisions are such bullshit.

No, she isn’t. And she’s even omitting other details.

Paula, I’m well aware that I owe you a response to your latest e-mail. This weekend, I promise.
