I don’t know - unmarked car, and it sounds like the cops weren’t in uniform. It’s not like they were in danger for their lives or were in hot pursuit of an escaped felon - it was just that their car had flooded. If there’s a “no unauthorized passengers” rule, why should the fact that he picked up 3 cops instead of 3 bakers or 3 janitors make a difference?
'Cause they’d have shot him if he hadn’t?
Because, as has been shown repeatedly, people seem to think cops have the right to tell them what to do, and the cops were telling him what to do. Sure, they wouldn’t have shot at him, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t know he was allowed to not help them.
And, even if he were allowed, he might have the other opinion of cops: that they are all evil. They know his license number, and he could wind up in more trouble the next time they meet.
Finally, the stated reason for not wanting strange passengers is that they’d place the students at risk. Verified cops are the exact opposite of adding risk.
The link says he has been re-instated now. Sanity prevails.
Publicity prevails. I suspect sanity had little to do with it.
In this case, it’s one and same. You seriously think someone deserves to lose their job over something like this?
And so he has been, as I thought. He didn’t have to help the cops, but he did, which was the civic-minded thing to do, and he certainly shouldn’t have been penalized for it. Glad that sanity has, indeed, prevailed.
No, no, I was just pointing out that his bosses hadn’t suddenly become sane
I’ll reserve judgement until information other than that article comes out, but as it stands
picking up people who say they’re cops?? You best believe that I’d be pretty pissed about someone transporting kids picking up 3 dudes who “say” they’re cops.
If they were impersonating cops, do you think they would ask to be taken to a police station?
Not necessarily. A cop is just as likely to be a bad person as anyone. My grandma has always told me “Never get in a cop car by yourself, if there is no reason to.”
Three escaped prisoners steal a police car then ask to be taken to the police station so the bus driver will believe that they are policemen. Once on the bus they pull out guns and hijack the bus to take them where they really want to go.
I would have liked to hear that the bus driver verified they were who they said they were before he let them on the bus. Seems to me real police would have been able to get out of a car in a puddle or at least been able to call for help from the police station. Would the real police leave their police car unattended to all go back to the station?
If that was their intent, why not draw the gun to gain access to the bus?
Honestly, give the guy a break. Would you feel comfortable saying no to three insistent police officers if you were a school bus driver?
I like what I’m hearing, kid. Let’s greenlight this piece of shit!
They’re sneaky.
It is odd that the article doesn’t say how the officers established their identities. I assume they showed badges, but who knows?
Obligatory Treasure of the Sierra Madre joke in one, two, three…
We don’t need no stinking Sierra Madre jokes!
Well played!
