Help ! Vista has taken control of my work and wont give it back to XP

Ok, I dual boot with XP and Vista RC1.
I was recently using vista to do some work, I went to my C: drive (XP is installed on this one, Vista is installed on a seperate hard drive in partition V: ) and tried to open some files to work with. I got a few security windows popping up and telling me that I dont have permission to access those files.

So Vista tells me I can get access by clicking the “security tab” and changing the owner. I may be wrong about this it might have been allowing me to change the permissions.

Well I go ahead and change the owner to “Joshua-V” the name of my computer when running vista. I can get the files and get on with my work.

Now the big problem is XP cant access these files any more, it isnt has helpful as Vista, it just says “access denied” tough luck mate. Also I cant find anywhere in vista to set the owner of these files back to “Joshua-XP”.

Is there anyway to do this ? I look forward to hearing you solutions.

I think you need to change the permissions to allow Everyone full control, from within Vista. Vista has no way of reconciling the user names on the other OS. Internally, the OS’s use a very long string of characters called a SID (security identifier, starts with S-1-5-… ) to identify the user, not the name you give it. So there is no way to assign permissions to XP users from within Vista - unless somehow you managed to have two accounts with the same SID.

The other way around it would be to burn the files to CD from within Vista, and boot to XP and copy them to a new directory. But then you will have a seperate copy for each OS.

Thanks I have used this method as a temporary solution.
