I’ve been posed a riddle at work, and apparently my google-fu sucks. Wondering if someone can help out with any suggestions? What do you get? As far as I’m aware there’s nothing up for grabs, so no prize to be shared, so how about my eternal gratitude?
We got provided two pictures, one of a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne and the other is a picture of Pablo Piccaso. The question posed is “What does this champagne have to do with this man?”
The best I got is that champagne and Piccaso are both mentioned in a Jay-Z song.
It sounds like it, but do you think the brand matters?
Are you sure it was Picasso? Not, say, Van Gogh (or someone else that spent time in France)?
“What does this champagne have to do with this man?”
Science and Charity is one of the major works from Picasso’s early years of training. At just 15, Picasso felt mature enough to take on large ambitious compositions as the culmination of his academic studies in Barcelona School of Fine Arts that were led by his father Jose Ruiz Picasso, who was the model for the doctor in this painting. Science and Charity was awarded an Honorary Mention at the General Fine Arts Exhibition in Madrid in spring 1897 and the Gold Medal at the Provincial Exhibition in Malaga held afterwards.* After that, Joaquin Martinez de la Vega – a painter and a friend of Picasso’s father – held a glass of champagne and, letting a few drops fall on Picasso’s head, baptized him a Painter.** And Picasso’s uncle, impressed by this wonderful achievement, sent money so that his nephew could study further in Madrid. However, despite the success, this would be Picasso’s last great work in traditional academic style. He left behind the intention, fostered by his father, to shape a career based on prizes and awards, to seek his artistic path outside and beyond the academy.*
Picasso’s best work is his Rose works, so too is that brand of champas…
They both make you vomit.
They both make you think you have bad vision.
But I suppose the best answer is that they are the top valued items of their kind (paintings, wine.)
Picasso used to be a member of a very prestigious shoes appreciation club sponsored by Berluti. It is there where his shoes were polished and finished with Veuve Clicquot champagne. Ironically, (or maybe not), both companies are now owned by the same conglomerate, LVMH.
