help with IDE controller card (RAID)

I ordered an IDE pci card so I could add an additional hard drive. But this thing seems to be a RAID controller, so I’m not sure how to configure it to just take one hard disk without any fancy stuff.

It says I have to go into setup and either form or dissolve RAID sets:

Set: 1 <0>
Set: 2 <1>
Set: 3 <2>
Set: 4 <3>
Ok, so what do I do? The “manual” that came with this is just a folded piece of paper that doesnt say much beyond this.

This is all pretty general advice due to the fact that I don’t know which controller you have or your current computer config. Make sure you back up your data from your existing hard drive before you continue.

You just want to add the new IDE drive to the new RAID controller and that’s it? No volume striping or mirroring with your existing disk? If that’s the case, just set your new hard drive to Master and connect it to the controller. Create the new RAID set and see if it gives you a JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) option. If not create a RAID 0 (striping) with the one new disk selected and you should be OK. You may need to repartition and reformat the new drive.

You will also most likely need to add the drivers for that RAID card to your OS. Make sure you have those handy before you start. After that is done you should check the net for firmware and driver updates.

Good luck!
