Help with naming an old song

After the success of my movie ID thread I thought I’d try get this one figured out too: it’s a tune from I think maybe 70s or early 80s (could be 60s too I guess it’s a weird tune that way); it starts with a flute and like a marching kind of drum beat underneath and then goes into the main melody which is some kind of piano and a polka(ish) beat. There aren’t really lyrics that I can recall except for a guy mumbling over part of it.
I’ve heard it in various commercials and shows ever since I was young, would love to know its story!

Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon, 1972.

Is suppose I should probably wait for the OP to come back and confirm this is the correct song…

…but I am seriously impressed, Biffy.

I could of used this a week ago. For years I’ve been trying to figure out what that old 70’s song featuring a dog that dies was…yesterday I heard “Shannon” again.

By all means be impressed, I am! Got it in one, thanks

Damn.

Outstanding!

This gave me a bit of a nostalgia trip, so I decided to Google up Lieutenant Pigeon and this song. Was amused to notice that there are sites that have bothered to post the lyrics

That video was a bit creepy. Was that Nana on piano?
