Family member can log onto their laptop and Hotmail account with a PIN ok, but they want to change password and setup recovery options.
Setting up recovery options requires them to verify with a text or email. The text option doesn’t work, there’s a MS error on screen, I think the number provided is a land line if that’s an issue. I tried sending a text from my own phone to the landline and it was received within a few seconds.
The email option is odd in that it quotes their own Hotmail address. So if they were stuck getting into Hotmail they’d need to use their own Hotmail address to receive a code… I advised to use the option to send a code to that address anyway but nothing arrived.
They tried the MS recovery procedure and received a code by email, but it doesn’t work when MS apps ask for a code. They did leave it a week after receiving it, but the email says nothing about it expiring.
Kind of stuck now, laptop and emails still accessible, but no idea what to do if a new laptop is needed or something else happens that requires something other than their PIN.
