Hera, Queen Of The Gods--peacocks?

Is the Goddess Hera associated with/symbolized by peacocks?

Yes. Apparently she had a chariot drawn by peacocks. I don’t think that chariot would get you anywhere in a hurry.

Even in Greek myth there are different origin stories for how peacocks came to be, but most center around a multi-eyed monster named Argos. Hera figures in one of those.

Trivia: Flannery O’Connor named two of her pea hens Hera and Juno due to the connection.

Somebody else has been reading Wonder Woman?

Lol! That’s what I came in to post!

No, I saw some amateur artists draw her with peacocks, & I wondered.

Peacocks are often associated with the country of Persia. Did the concept of Hera have a foreign, eastern origin?

In Persia they were sacred to the god Tammuz (husband of Anat and former lover of Ishtar).

hera’s peacock, athena’s owl, and aphrodite’s dove.
