We have a few around here, including in my sleepy little burb, but around these parts Dunkin’ Donuts is King.
[hijack] NO WAY! I was talking about Polaris Fashion Place [hijack again] that is the stupidest name for a mall ever…[/hijack again] in my post above! I diddnt know there was one in the Great Indoors though…Hmm…I’ll have to check that one out. Personally, I prefer the Panara Bread’s coffee there on the corner better anyway…but who can pass up a good frapachino on a hot day? (nobody answer that) [/hijack]
[tinfoil hat on] I’ve never set foot inside a starbucks. I’ve never drank their coffee. They’ll never take me alive.[ infoil hat off]
There’s about 4 Starbucks’ in all of Montreal.
Of course, there’s a Sucking Cock (Second Cup) on every corner. But that’s at least Canadian.
Funny you should mention that. The article I cited mentioned that the number of Starbucks in Manhattan either had just overtaken, or was about to overtake, the number of Duane Reades. But that’s only Duane Reade. Just adding Rite Aid will put you way over the top.
And I disagree with you about the toilets. To me, this is the perfect example of the private sector providing a public need, at least for those who don’t smell too awful or frighten the customers. (I know, how terribly un-p.c. of me. I’m a New Yorker, bite me. Besides, the bar is actually pretty low.) The city is not exactly awash in cash to be paying toilet attendants, and if Starbucks and Barnes & Noble fill the need, all the better…
ThatGuyWithPants: I believe that i know of a mall with a name that is more stupid than yours. It was Southlake Mall.
And now I give you, Westside Shoppingtown Southlake!
Come to Wilkes-Barre. We’ve only got one, and it’s at B&N.
Several years ago, my favorite goth bar was shut down, because the landlord sold the property to Starbucks. I hiss every time I go past a Starbucks, now.
Local stuff, or Second Cup. As matt said, at least it’s Canadian.
I currently live in Norway - No Starbucks here
Three and a half years ago, in NZ, no one really knew what Starbucks was. (we missed out on the funniest part of Ausin Powers that way, sigh) And then it came to our fair shores…
…and mushroomed…
Auckland’s CBD, which is NOT large, now boasts about fifteen different stores…about half of all Starbucks that are in NZ…
‘will it destroy local cafes?’ newspapers asked just before they came…
and we can happily answer, ‘no. They burn their coffee-beans’
…but you cant beat a mango-citris frappaccino on a hot day…

of course…cut 'n paste if you please…
