Here come the pseudo hippies....

I wouldn’t assume that it would be short. I would hope that any response is considered and calculated, and designed to strike accurately.
And just to clear things up, your second section is directed to mswas, right?

Before being allowed to protest, these nuevo-hippies should be required to submit a written report on the solution they propose to the problem. Furthermore, the words ‘love’, ‘peace’, ‘Baez’, and ‘dude’ should be disallowed.

BTW Times New Roman allows you relive the glory of the republic with full serif.

Yeah, I’m sure that’s it.

We wouldn’t mind at all having the military’s plans and actions broadcast live on CNN where just anyone could see them.

Glory of the Republic? even though it comes from “The Times” newspaper (hence, “Times”) If anything, it would be the Enemy font of the Republic!!

Yes Twist of Fate, that second part wasn’t directed at you.

My attack at these wannabies is because I really don’t think they know what they are talking about. Not because of their opinions but because I think they are just anxious to have a cause and this is convenient. They want Vietnam II. Then they can use that to justify free love and drugs.

I could understand the hippies and Vietnam. We werent’ attacked or provoked into that.

Fascist!

When the revolution comes all of your counter-revolutionary typefaces will be burnt on the pyre of Capitalism and we will march into a glorious future with simple, unadorned, monospaced, Letter Gothic.

¡Viva la Revolucion!

Forgive the dispersion of this post…
…but I’d like to hit each point in turn.

Yes, I’ve been meaning to say something about our immediate reaction to this event, what with the carpet bombing and Tomahawks flying all over the place…oh, wait a sec!

Some merit here, btu then again, we are, actually, at war. I’ll give this an even score.

 Yeah, those military types are just chomping at the but to beat up on innocents, smack around some women and kick a few kids.
The media black out is as it should be. You said it: “This is NOT a just war,” this is, and needs to be, covert actions used to root out, capture or destroy not only the terrorists, but the instruments of terror, their supplies and anything they might use to inflict harm on others (except, I guess maybe the rocks on the groud, but you have to set some limits.) Having cameras around every corner, sending troop position reports across the globe for anyone and everyone to see is the most ridiculous thing we could do and it would be so detrimental to our troops and our cause, I simply can’t wrap my mind around the fact that people think it is a good idea!

By Any Means Necessary was the name of the pseudo-hippy troup.

Yes, it’s all that damn Bush guys war, we Americans want nothing to do with it. The freedoms of which you speak are the same ones that were so easily exploited to create the havoc and death we saw last week. Are you really so inconvenienced by a thorough search of your bags at the airport? By the loss of drive-up check-in? By a real-time media black-out of war?

No, he was comparing them to people striving to act like people who were misguided 30 years ago (though they kinda had a reason for protest) but have been glamorized for the last 10. Watch PCU (the movie) and you’ll likely see the folks he is talking about. The angst-ridden college students, finding out that they do, in fact, have a voice and taking the opportunity, being away from home for the first time, to speak out against perceived wrongs. Any perceived wrongs. Every perceived wrong. To speak in a great, sweeping manner, these people don’t know what they are railing against, they are lemmings following the en vogue cause to rally against, to make a statement about and get all puffed up and tormented over. Here today, gone tomorrow…or whenever the next big thing comes along.

The turth is that there is plenty of action to be taken. Investigation, infiltration and coordination of allies and information. No action has been taken, yet, and I take that as an amazing bit of restraint. Do you really think that any other country on the planet would be showing as much control and, though angry, level-headedness over the last week-and-a-half? We have not knee-jerked with missiles flying and bombs dropping, though we’ve been accused of it almost from day one of this disaster. “And that’s the sad truth.” Indeed.

If I’m going to blindly support something, you’re damn right it’s going to be my country. Luckily, I’m able to go about my day with my eyes wide open. I’m able to look into any aspect of the upcoming battle and the history behind it and I’m able to form my own conclusions and opinions. I’m able to make statements without painting those that disagree with the hateful brush of racism, xenophobia and blood-lust, or in your case, any rhetoric that makes your argument: “Me good, you bad.” Those in the military don’t want to indiscriminately slaughter people. Nothing would make them happier than to find those that perpetrate terror and oppression upon their fellow countrymen and sew terror across the globe because they have a difference in ideology, to find those people and bring them to justice. That is the mission, that is the goal.

Ahhh… If only I were American and given to lengthy sigs…

I don’t want to state what I have already stated in another thread so I will link to it.

Not everyone supports what is being done, some of us just need to find a way to accept it and not get our panties in a wad over it. I guess being 33 rather than in my late teens or early 20s makes a big difference.

This discussion has ended. I win!

When there is something to act upon would be a good time.

Erek

Liz, in deference to the serious situation our country is in and the ardent efforts to put this thread back on track, I will not belabor the fact that you do not, in fact, wear panties.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve seen posted yet. And I remember the fucking foreskin debate.

Your logic is irrefutable  … maybe you could elaborate and indicate exactly what conditions and situation would need to exist in order to qualify as “something to act upon”.

Here’s a hint: “A situation where action can be taken” nor any variation of it is an acceptable level of detail in an answer.

I am proud to be 100% idiot. Though, thank god I am not the only one who thinks that about Bush’s speech.

Retaliation against Afghanistan is only going to unite people into a Jihad which is what the terrorists want. Just wait until our bases in Pakistan are overrun when the ruling government of Pakistan falls because of the support they give US troops. It’s not simple and cut and dry, a lot of shit is going to go down and Bush is acting like a fool.

Erek

Shoot, now we’re going to have to have a Gang of Five, and that completely blows the historical resonance of the link to Mao’s widow and her co-conspirators, plus a link to an interesting 80’s pop band.

Say, for example, the destruction of the WTC, an attack on America’s military headquarters, and the deaths of thousands of civilians?

We don’t have any bases in Pakistan

How,exactly, is Bush acting like a fool? Has he bombed anyone yet? Has he reacted blindly, or has he consulted with his Cabinet to figure out a measured response? Has he he declared war on all Islamdom, or was he careful to say that we are angry only at terrorists and that the US supports its Muslim population and friends abroad?

I didn’t vote for him, but, more and more, Dubya is gaining my grudging admiration, although I’d be a lot happier to to see Rudy Guiliani as Prez.

'Nuf said. You could have stopped there, but you go on…

Agreed, there are other idiots…

Brilliant political analysis, excellent sentence structure. You are not a 100% idiot after all.

But please explain why you think our President, his advisors, and Militay have not thought of this? Are you saying they look forward to inciting a Holy War? Is that why he said (repeatedly) that this is not a war on Islam or on Arab nations in general? Is that why he warned against acts of intolerance here?

Please explain 1) How was this inflamatory, and 2) If it was, who was it meant to inflame? Terrorists? What should we do for them? Sing a love song after they killed God knows how many people?

Alright, to clarify, when they find a way to get at the real perpetrators, when they have fairly good proof, I will support an action that doesn’t include Aircraft Carriers, Tomahawks and 100 warplanes against a country that doesn’t even have an infrastructure.

Erek
