The college students on campuses are starting their protests and demonstrations of our pending attacks on terrorism. They are so desperate to be like the hippies of the 60’s, now they have their chic cause.
One of the largest organizers is a group called, oddly enough, By Any Means Necessary. I would think a group like that would be in favor of stopping terrorism “By Any Means Necessary”. Oh well… maybe if they bombed an abortion clinic instead of the world trade center and pentagon they would be behind us.
I have an idea, let’s tell them that the hijackers wore fur, killed some animals, and that Mumia Abu Jamal was killed in the terrorist attack. Apparantly the 6500 lives lost wasn’t enough.
FWIW, I was listening to NPR three days after the bombings when I heard them state that people were organizing a protest rally in front of the White House to oppose any military action whatsoever. Apparently, these moron’s believe that if you ignore it and just think loving thoughts at it, it’ll go away or something.
Xploder, who is very confused these days about some of the ignorant assholes that inhabit his country…
After the speech concluded, our local news ran as one of their top stories the reaction of some of the students at the Ohio State University. One of them reported he didn’t like the speech at all, and went on to say we should be investigating why the terrorist attacked us in the first place before we take any action.
But of course, how silly that no one thought of this before this student did. While we’re at it, perhaps we should try to learn how the terrorist felt about attacking us as well.
Oh well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this particular one sure didn’t need to make the news.
Maybe we should send those guys on a fact finding mission to one of bin Ladin’s camps. He can give them all hugs and then they can all share their feelings. That’ll work.
Yeah, those stupid gen-x’ers exercising their constitutional right to free expression. we need another
And if wanting to make sure that no more innocent people die as “collateral” to a military (be it national or terrorist) action is chic… call me fucking “Vouge” magazine.
so what the fuck were the 6500 people who died in the attacks on Sept 11? Those were innocents. Do you think we should just turn the other cheek?
We were attacked. We have to fight back. We have to find out who did it. We have to punish them.
How can not doing that be defended? It’s impossible.
These kids are just bored and looking for something to do and have ‘angst’ about. They finally got tired of sitting at Starbucks all day writing poetry. Now they have a purpose.
TwistOfFate, I got the impression Oblong was criticizing the group’s message, rather than their exercise of their right to free speech. I fully support the right of every American to say whatever he or she likes, but I also reserve the right to disagree with it, roll my eyes about it, and mock is visciously. Voltaire has a much nicer quotation to this effect.
Does anyone else wish “America brought this on itself, let’s do nothing” crowd would run across the “Let’s go nuke us some A-rabs” faction? The resulting melee would eliminate the radicals on both sides, thus sparing rational people the embarassment of calling these people our fellow Americans.
Well, as it was said before, if not bombing innocent civilians to make unthinking patriots feel safer at night is vogue, then I guess I’m a pseudo-hippy. Bush’s speech was not a good speech, it was flagrantly inflammatory. Also, have you noticed that they have said that they are NOT allowing press to move with the troops and report from the front? “Because they don’t want the terrorists to get intel from the media”, yeah fucking right, they don’t want us to see Joe Average with a gun barrel in some poor lady’s veil based on some scumbags orders. This is NOT a just war. I am all for finding the terrorists BUT NOT by “Any Means Necessary.”, I am not a pacifist, I don’t think that pacifist inaction is the answer. However I do not think that Bush’s Holy Crusade that only kills innocent civilians, takes away freedoms back home, and serves to make the terrorist’s point is the answer either. This is the way Tyranny begins. And all you jackasses can do is compare people to hippies hoping to make people feel stupid for action. The truth is, there IS NO real course of action to be taken at this time, therefore NO ACTION should be taken. And that’s the sad truth. But you’re probably on your blind patriotism bandwagon and I hope it suits you. Why don’t you sign up so you can go kill some evil ragheads?
Ok so when is the appropriate time to act? When the Empire State building goes down in flames due to terrorist actions? Or perhaps the whitehouse? Maybe the Sears tower?
Oblong, don’t get me wrong. I fully accept that there has to be a reaction to the events of the 11th. And I will fully support whatever avenues are necessary for justice to be served.
But I hope you’ll excuse me for getting pissed off at the “Dead or Alive” attitude that is currently being protrayed to the world by your government.
BTW, I agree with you that there is a “cause celebre” element in any outcry. I wouldn’t contest that,
Yes. the US has to do this. So does the International Community as a whole. Its how we do this is the question that should now be asked. I feel that If deplomacy is fully exausted, there should be a intelligence war, before any ground force lands. The last thing I would want is an Arial war. Bombs dont discriminate. Soldiers do.
Sorry if I sounded derogatory in my last post. I didn’t mean to piss anyone off, I just reacted knee jerk. My bad.
no problem.
But the dead or alive attitude refers to the terrorists, not anyone else. I don’t see anything wrong with that.
So now the problem is that the media won’t be allowed to go in and televise the war on CNN. There’s a reason for that. This will involve covert operations. There will be bad guys on our side. They will get large sums of money for information. Sorry but that’s how it works. You can dream about your utopian everyone gets along and holds hands and sings campfire songs world all you want, but that is not how it is.
This is not a video game or movie. It won’t be all wrapped up in a short period of time.
Stop making shit up!
I forgot when Bush made the announcement that we were going to ‘bomb the diaperheads’. He’s said all along that this battle will be a patience tester. Those people don’t have freedoms!
How is retaliation against those who did this making their point?
Bush was very clear this wasn’t against a nation or a religion. It’s against a loose network of people that we have to go find. We aren’t goint to just drop bombs randomnly out of the sky hoping that we get them.
If you thought Bush’s speech was inflammatory, then you are a 100% certified idiot. I really don’t know what you expect from the President. Should we just give in? What should we do? Offer suggestions.
