Wait, so we have to have a balance with a ‘good’ transsexual, because that’s the ONLY reason we know that Parker and Scott don’t hate gays in their treatment of Garrison?
That’s not a good argument. It seems to reiterate the Garrison is messed up. I think few people though Parker and Snow hated gay people after all the BS that Garrison did (and the whole Mr. Slave thing).
And in that SAME episode, there was talk about how it was in the “Document of Holy Vatican Law” that Catholic priests have the right to molest little children. I don’t think they were saying much good about organized religion right there. Oh, and the Catholics appealed to a Giant Spider for final guidance.
So… wait. Since they made fun of one side during the 2000 election, that means they are irrevocably biased? After all the stuff they’ve accused about Republicans (HELLO… controlled by Satan is, I think, worse than being called whiners)? How about the Boy Scouts? When they got rid of Big Gay Al, suddenly they had the manly Scout leader who made the scouts take off all their clothes and take pictures of them. Christians? Mel Gibson was portrayed as a lunatic and people who liked “The Passion” were easily led by Cartman into a march to advocate killing the Jews. Also Mrs. Brovlovski is obviously a representation of the Religious Right and is portrayed in a HORRIBLE light.
I agree with a part of that. South Park isn’t “genius”. It’s a hilarious comedy that occasionally has moments of genius. Such as the Schiavo episode when the last page of the will was revealed.
well, I know I should use paragraphs more often, but still, in post 14, I said:
Again, Big Gay Al is a positive gay figure, and an antidote to Garrison
Yes, and after all that, before the end of the episode, things went back to being status quo.
Yes, that’s right. Being opposed to republicans doesn’t mean they can’t, and have taken up republican strawmen, for their own purposes. As you said, they are libertarians. That doesn’t mean they haven’t occasionally ripped on the liberal for sins they are not actually guilty of, re: 2000 election.
Not funny. You are not a mod, you do not have a mod hat. If you feel that a moderator’s view or interference is called for, hit REPORT THIS POST button (the little exclamation point in the upper right hand corner.)
Also not funny, and not appropriate for Cafe Society.
I don’t recall ever saying anything about Jeff Gannon. Please provide a link if you can. I don’t think you can. And no, when I say independent, I MEAN independent.
[::The Cheat knocks over the lamp, breaking it. A light turns on and Homestar comes out. He is wearing pajamas, and it appears he hasn’t shaved. Scott Bad looks hastily for an escape and The Cheat puts his hands in the air.::
Homestar Runner: {tired} Oh, hey, Scott Sad. Batman. What are you guys doing in my house?
South Park hates me?!? Oh noes! I’ll have to stop watching the one episode I catch every four years (it’s a little LCD for me, although I admit the PSP episode was funny as hell).
Wait, why should I give a rat’s ass about this? Are we surmising that South Park is going to affect a social change in our country? If so, is it pushing a conservative agenda or a Republican agenda? If it’s conservative, it’d be a big ol’ step in the right direction for us.
To wit… You say that two guys who make a half-hour animated cartoon agree with your views (or at least what I presume you are saying your views are?) on some things, but they think most of the rest of your views are wrong.
Suppose that premise is totally true, and these two guys disagree with most of your views. Why is that scary?
I was going to give a long anwer, but instead, just read Slacker post, the one above yours, and realize that I do not want the country to be more conservative then it already is.
Remember when South Park was a celebration of the scatalogical joys of childhood rather than *Donahue *with poop jokes? (clutches season 1 DVD’ to her bosom)
When they STFU about the politics Hail Satan!, they’re great. When it’s libertarian Designing Women , ehhhh.
“Asshat!”
I took it to mean that becoming an atheist for such as stupid reason as the fact that the catholic church seems to have some major issues is akin to shitting out your mouth. It’s not like cathlicism is the only branch of christiany there is, so you have a choice between catholicism and athiesm.
But then again, maybe you do have a point, since Athiesm doesn’t make much sense in the SP universe considering that not only did Jesus live in town, Both God and Satan have visited(God himself appeared in front of that huge crowd in LV).
“The Losing Edge”: the boys are happy to see the regular baseball season since they hate playing. Unfortunately, since they have the best record, they go on to the playoffs. The B story is Stan’s father who gets his jollies fighting with fathers of opposing team members.
“The Death of Eric Cartman”: The boys decide they’ve had enough of Cartman’s bull so they ignore him and convice all the kids in school to do the same. This causes him to believe he’s dead. Butters is not in on the joke and thinks he’s crazy because he sees “dead people”.
That’s exactly the message that I got. I’m athiest, and I had no problem whatsoever with that ep.
You can pick one or two Southpark episodes or quotes here and there, and argue that they’re biased against ANY group. Arguing that Southpark is conservative based on two episodes (and ignoring all the evidence to the contrary) is just a complete waste of time.
