Here is proof that the music industry has no fucking soul

Is there any safe-haven from advertising left? Will we see product placements in novels? In video games?

Who’s more evil, the music industry or the advertising industry?

“I like girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch,
'cos I’m Madison Avenue’s bitch”

Kodachroooooome…

Played any sports games lately?

good thing copyrights last life + 70 now. it’s clear that the extra (unconstitutional) incentive is paying off with much more creativity…

There are ads in the video games I play. (Mainly for cars, and odly enough,Red Bull.)

She’s real fine, my 409…

i remember reading about ads in a novel. let me google…

Here is something.

DIY and indie labels.

Guys, you need to understand these people. Sheesh. They have no choice. Record companies have been losing fortunes, FORTUNES, to shameless thieves and evil mp3 plunderers. That’s why nobody buys LP’s anymore. That’s why the record companies need to supplement their income any way they can. Shame, shame, SHAME on those of you who would suggest that the quality of their product has ANYTHING to do with their current predicament. Quite frankly, guys, I don’t give a damn if Bob Marley sings about Pepsi Cola, or if Britney Spears confeses to homicide. As long as my brain gets a break. You know. A Kit Kat[sup]tm[/sup] break.

Yeah, we have a book with an ad in it; its a card in the center of the book with two cig ads on either side. It’s about the JFK assasination.

The record industry continues to baffle me.

They sell a product that costs almost nothing to make/distribute at ridiculously high prices. They supposedly pay the artists peanuts for the actual songs (touring is where the artists make their buck, right?) The songs get advertised for FREE on the radio (do they still do Payola?) Yet, they cannot make any money…

Well, the radio stations have to pay to play. And payola is still out there.

But this ain’t new, children. I recall in the 80s there was a (somewhat cynical) attempt to do this with really terrible band called Sigue Sigue Sputnik. They dropped commercials in between the tracks on the LP.

Love Missile F-1-11 ROCKED! Take that back!

Product placement isn’t all that new, it’s a logical extension of what has been going on for years.

Micheal Jacksons endorsement of Coke, and some else doing the same for Pepsi.

All those designer clothes with very large and easy to read labels on music videos, all those cars, the list goes on and on.

The whiney little fucks who want something for nothing.

Could you explain your post, Spoofe, who wants something for nothing?

Yeah, who are you talking about Spoofe? Did you automatically assume that this thread that discusses record companies was also about P2P also?

Give us those nice bright colors… give us those greeeeeeeeeeens of summer…

Only didn’t Paul Simon write that song of his own volition, and Kodak the one ready to have a coronary over his use of the name ‘Kodachrome’ until they realized it was like having him do a commercial for them?

Loads of video games have product placement, in that example however I think many people find it has the effect of “heightening the realism”. I believe (no cite, but hey) that gamers playing racing games actually requested that the cars, and sidings in the game have the real adverts put on rather than the fake ones that the games previously had. AFAIK The Sims has made a deal with various companys to support their RL products in future versions of The Sims, for example a Sony tv rather than a Plasmavision tv.

As for authors, while I enjoyed the first couple of Scarpetta books I can’t work out if Cornwell is actually getting cash in hand, or is just a complete brand queen. Noone ever looks at their watch, they look at their Breitling, they reached for their Mont Blanc and signed the cheque, her Mercedes was in the garage. For gods sakes, build the characters with words, not brands.
