Transition time… They home deliver Thurs., Fri and Sunday. But that is now. I just like getting it off the porch first thing in the morning. Plus they supply plastic bags for cat poop and rubberbands. It is not the same going to get the paper at the corner., finding the rack sold out and driving around looking for one.
Dammit, gonzo, you’re not that much of a Luddite - you own a computer and you’re here. So you can get your news - you just need to make some adjustments.
Quit your bitching - others have worse problems. You’re in Detroit - you don’t have to go far to find people with a sob story actually worth listening to.
Isn’t this the Pit? Where people bitch at everything under the sun? I think bitching about the paper reducing delivery is a valid concern since it’s a good example of the problems facing newspapers.
I enjoy having a paper to read in the morning while I eat my breakfast as I’m getting ready for work. However, I don’t like it enough to spend time getting the paper in morning. I’m busy getting ready to go to work. So a plan like this would lead to me not reading the paper as much, and I suspect the same would be true for many others. To a further effect, I suspect people would get out of the habit of reading papers. They may realize they don’t miss the paper on the days they don’t get it and perhaps cancel their subscription.
Right.
Every day two newspapers and several commentary blogs load into my Kindle. I can read them over breakfast and throughout the day. I also have a subscription to the Atlantic Monthly - I used to get it in the mail. Now it too loads into the Kindle and the price of the subscription is considerably reduced.
The magazine is delivered wirelessly. If the RSS feeds to the news articles were less available I would consider a subscription to the Washington Post as well for the Kindle, and the paper would be delivered wirelessly as well. As it is, I have a traditional subscription, so I don’t feel too bad about reading their content on my convenient little gadget.
I get my news from the computer. I visit several sites and get emails from dem and repub groups. I get my local news, local sports and comix from the Detroit Newspapers. Detroit is having some real interesting political news lately. The Pistons and Wings are getting ready for the playoffs. The Tiger season is starting and in Detroit all the team news is covered in depth. National publications do not cover the local news well at all.
