Here's a stupid GQ - do Latina ladies actually carry razor blades in their hair?

Here I am! I am Latina and proud. ¡Sí, claro! We all do. I do, mi madre, mi hermana! All of my cousins! Why you would not be a true Latina unless you carried razor blades in your hair.

Ok, seriously now. Good god! Nope. Nobody that I know personally does either. I am guessing that it has been done…perhaps by girls in gangs, or such. Personally the only thing that I have put in my hair is a nice playful ribbon. It seems to me that putting razors in ones hair could shred your fingers to pieces when trying to retrieve it. Unless of course you had it wrapped up in something, but then what would be the point if you were using them for protection and needed easy fast access to your …um…weapon.

This made me crack up.

I’d never heard that about the razor blades but I once read in a Beatles biography that in the early 60s kinda thuggy guys would put stick pins under their lapels (this was back when even thugs wore nice clothes, haha) so that if they got in a fight and the other guy grabbed them by the lapels they’d get a fistfull of stick pin stabs.

I’ve heard that it was the mods who would sew fish hooks under their lapels for this purpose. Apparently the rockers like to grab them by the lapels when fighting.

I’m a Latina, and I’ve never carried a razor blade in my hair. With my luck I’d probably lose a finger or two in the attempt to hide it.
