Here's Something for the Anti-Evolution Folks

A fish with legs!!

Marine biologists scooting around deep water near Indonesia found this fishie out having a stroll.

Okay, so it doesn’t prove anything yet, but after growing up hearing nothing but “So where are these missing links? There are no missing links!” along with other anti-science drivel, it’s great to see this little guy walking around.

Cool!

The cool thing if you’re a devout anti-evolution person is that when a new fossil is found that is intermediate between two other forms - this does NOT mean that you need to shut up about “where are the missing links?” It just means that now you have TWO MISSING LINKS to go on about, because there are now three animals with two “gaps” between them! You never lose this way - Excellent!

A good metaphor for this whole “missing link” garbage argument was given by Dawkins:
Evolution does not “skip” from one distinct animal type to another. There is a gradual transition. One generation of animal does not give birth to an entirely different type of animal. It’s as if there are two “types” of humans; those 18 and over who can vote (adults) and those younger than 18 who cannot vote (youth). Where’s the missing link between these two “types”? eh? You have either “youth” or “adult”. Where’s the youthadult type? Therefore, it is clearly impossible for youths to turn into adults.

Very cool, though if they weren’t persuaded by the axolotl I don’t think this will change anything :(.

It looks just like those car decals!

It is the Darwin Fish!

I’m glad that God finally got around to creating one.

Mad Magazine’s Axolotl Poem from 1958

Cheer up, at least there’s the above link. Scroll down to read the poem, then commit it to memory to torture your friends with, like I do.

And here’s something else–

Darwin’s On The Origin Of Species, in Graphic Novel format!

Does anyone know the scientific name of the Darwin Fish there? Or is it a new discovery?

Is it a true lobe-fin fish, or is it a more conventional species not in the Sarcopterygii clade?

Nice link, but I’m still sad, my accent prevents the poem from rhyming as intended.

It has leg-like fins, but it’s not lobe-finned, so it’s probably convergent.

You don’t need a submarine to plunge deep into the abyss to find fish with “legs”, I found this guys around Mabul island in 10 to 20 meters of water, they are all over the place the trick is to actually spot them.
