Man, I just cannot stop playing with this thing. Curse you, danceswithcats!
Sorry for the ressurection, but “World of Sand” has now been updated.
I bring you…
That’s some reeeely creepy shit, man.
Besides the creepy things (which can be turned off), oil now floats on water, sand sinks in water, salt dissovles in water, and plants can’t grow in saltwater.
You’re right; I really like this sort of stuff.
I’ve been playing with this for a couple weeks. Jayisgames.com is a great blog.
You can make a perpetual flame.
Turn off the slug, stickmen and all four colums of falling stuff.
Fill the screen with spout. (tip: change pen size to 32 first)
Change pen size back to 1, then make a ??? explosion in the middle of the screen (click just once)
Make a line of plant across the bottom of the screen.
Wait until plant has filled the screen, then click to start a fire in the middle of the screen.
Watch and be mesmerized.
(note: flame may not actually be perpetual…I just had one die out. But they usually run for a while, anyway)
That’s excellent; of itself, this applet isn’t exactly a cellular automaton - it’s more of a simulation, but your method turns it into a cellular automaton, or rather, implements a cellular automaton within the simulation. Cool.
I like covering people in oil and then setting them on fire.
How do you make the people appear? Somehow some showed up on mine but I didn’t do anything that I recall.
I drew too much salt on my namekuji and it exploded into little bits that flew across the screen devouring everything in their path. Then a differently-shaped Namekuji appeard and replaced it.
Is it a bad thing that doing this is maxing out my computers CPU?
I just wasted way too much time on this.
You’re all going to hate me. Try this one: DOFI-BLOG どふぃぶろぐ すなめ地獄 (HELL OF SAND Large version)
Zombie to throw around
I saw that one. Many more similar games can be found by clicking the links on that page. I think the first one is the best however. Except it is very CPU intensive and keeps overheating my laptop.
Addicting as hell though. I still spent about 10 minutes a day playing with it.
Hell of Sand is broken for me. Ideas?
Don’t bother. That is the weakest of the games. It integrates War of Sand with the floating stick-figure one. It is boring and pointless, with poor integration.
I disagree. It implements several changes, including salt dissolving in water, sand sinking in water and oil floating on water.

I’m going to try again. I played it a couple of times, and never noticed that!
Try this:
Turn off all the streams, the slug and the people.
Draw a box with the wall. Select “water” and fill up the box. Select Sand, and sprinkle atop the water.
Do the same with salt. The light blue is salt water. Salt water sinks in pure water, oil does not rise through salt water, sand does not sink through salt water and plants do not grow in salt water.
Do the same with oil, but put the oil in the box and put the water on top.
I see it now. But i still can’t play either of the sand games for very long since they overheat my laptop.
The kids have been playing with this for about 45 minutes now. Their comments are priceless…
“How would you like some oil? You’ll be fine.
Arrgggh. I’m your ruler now! Hey, I set you free! My master plan is working! Lets drop that on our citizens. Release the water! Aahh, I’m trapped. What am I going to do? Melt his head off.”
