Here's the attempt to "Swiftboat' Obama

Honestly, when I first heard the announcement, the way he used “I” and “me” and what ever else you’re complaining about struck me as him taking RESPONSIBILITY.

Remember, that announcement was seen by the globe and we had just invaded another county’s territory without their permission. So, for all this whining about being a glory hog, I think it was important that he struck an aggressive posture (as in, “and I’ll do it again”) because Pakistan wasn’t exactly happy at the time of the announcement.

And, after reading through this thread, given what is going on in Iran. I would much rather Iran contemplate their actions in light of Obama’s use of drones and his authorization of a mission with only 50/50 chance of success. So, I’m glad he was a glory hound (if that’s how you need to view it), because it makes him look eager to do it again. Obama also doesn’t seem to have a huge taste for endless ground battles. He’s proven that he’s more interested in finding out who’s in charge, then taking them out with a single strike.

Honestly, I’d hate to see Romney win. I’d imagine Iran would view him as an easily manipulated pawn who’d send in a bunch of troops, Haliburton and Xe contractors. Iran has the advantage in a ground war and there are plenty over there that would be happy to fight it out for years.

So, if you want to call it ‘taking too much credit’ - fine. But, in my opinion, he was taking responsibility and that had an important impact beyond the birther’s small little world.

I’m registered Republican, a Christian, prior Marine, and had nearly two decades in counter intelligence. I actively worked to get Huckabee nominated (he has since gone FoxNews idiot and I wouldn’t do it again!).

The fact that the GOP has done nothing to call off this Birtherism bullshit is just one of the reasons that I will vote AGAINST every Republican on my ballot. And, I have spent a heck of a lot of time this year telling the people in my own community how the Republican party has gone off the deep end and needs to be completely voted out. I have no problem telling local Birthers that they’re sheeple and mocking them in front of their friends. I can easily refute that Obama is not a Muslim because I’ve been in Muslim countries. Do you think he’d be accepted with a wife that runs around half naked and show no deference to him? He’s repeatedly violated their religious beliefs. That would be like saying that a stripper is a secret nun who has the approval of the Pope to give lap dances and act in porn movies so they can take out men who cheat on their wives.

So, I think Birtherism will have an impact on this election cycle.

Gosh, so reluctant to acknowledge his own individual accomplishments. This communitarian spirit is spurring big government and sending our country into ruin…

Who’da thunk that Michelle posing for magazine covers with those massive guns would be a campaign strategy?
Good on you, Enkel, for coming to your senses. Now we need to get another coupla million rightwingers to do the same…

Yes, right on, Enkel, and thanks for spreading the word. Just remember that, at least 3 out of every 10 times you explain to someone that “Obama is not a Muslim,” you should add “but there would be nothing wrong with it if he were!”

I hope you can see why it’s important to keep hammering that point home, too.

I really hope that the killing of OBL becomes a major talking point in the upcoming election. Please Republicans, remind the American people every day between now and November 6 that Bin Laden was killed on Obama’s watch.

I was never a rightwinger, but I watched the Koch brothers fund them and now they’ve taken over the megaphone so that the sane people are shouted down by absolute idiots. The Birthers and the Muslim thing are two really sore points for me because the local population talk about them as if they’re true and not some made up crap spread by people who are either bigots of jackasses.

You are likely what used to be a “right-winger”. Remember, it wasn’t an insult, because at the time it identified a political leaning, and was not necessarily symptomatic of batshitosis.

And, while I’m on a rant. I’m sick and tired of seeing people trying to defend Obama as ‘not taking credit’ for the raid. Like I wrote above, we had just invade another country and Obama needed to take ownership of that fact in a way that made it clear that he’d be happy to send other troops in to finish any discussions. Do you think Pakistan would have backed down if Obama went out there and acted like the SOC accidentally stumbled on Osama and, aw, shucks… kinda killed him all on their own? What kind of third world banana republic would the US look like if that were the case?

These rightwingers who are all up in arms because Obama hurt someone’s feelings are blithering idiots and I’m very sick of seeing the “Democrat-types” cowering under that threat of “he’s mean and he hurt our widdle feelings”.

Democrats need to grow some balls and quit taking the bait every time the rightwingers sneeze. They aren’t going to vote for Obama and you look like idiots trying to convince a brick wall that it should somehow magically grow a brain.

We have to hope, Enkel. If we cannot change people, we cannot win. Fighting uphill against money, power and ignorance, and their staunch ally, apathy…it can be a disheartening struggle. Forty years and change, working this pop stand, and lost more fights than I remember. Which is good, because if I did remember them all, I would probably dissolve into a puddle of existential apathy. Oh, what a world, what a world…

So, there was this guy, sitting in a bar, just killing some time and there were three rather attractive young women sitting up at the rail. Anyway, though the door comes this short, squat, ugly little man, I mean ugly! Walk past a blind man, the blind man gouges his ears out, can’t get home because his guide dog won’t stop throwing up. Seriously ugly! But very well dressed, natty, doing his best.

Anyway, the little guy notices the ladies, straightens his tie, goes up to the closest one and climbs up on the bar stool next to her and says “Excuse me, don’t want to bother you, but would you like to go somewhere and fuck?” She gasps in horror (this is a nice bar, not the kind I go to…) and backhands him, whap!..right off the barstool, backflip.

He gets up, dusts himself off, apologizes, and moves down the line to the next. Same thing again, same response, same dust off and apology. After the third and final firm rejection, he sighs, shrugs, and orders a beer. Guy watching all this calls him over to sit, and asks “Hey, man, what the hell are you doing? You do know, and i don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but you are uglier than a horned toad’s sister, you know that, right?”

“Yes” (sigh)

“Well, shit, this must happen to you a lot!”

“Yes, almost every time” (sigh)

“Well why the hell do you do it?”

"I did say ‘almost’ "

Hope.

Well, you tell me:

  • I see a HUGE difference between my Church and the US Government. These political “Christians” are destroying the Church. I want separation of Church and state. If a Church wants the right to tell me who to vote for, then all they have to do is pay taxes like any other business. IF God wanted them in politics, then God will provide for them, including the added money needed for taxes. If they don’t pay, then they shouldn’t play. I can’t say how disgusting it is to see politic-ing from the pulpit!

  • Corporations should be heavily regulated to make up for the fact that they have no conscience to guide them. Individuals should not be regulated beyond what is needed to maintain a peaceful society.

  • I personally think homosexuality is a sin. But I also believe that children, God and everyone else are not so stupid that they will get tripped up because of what people call “marriage”. Under US law, you could marry your favorite donkey for all I care. If the Church wants to ‘save the family’ they’ll work to ban divorce first because numerically, that affects more children every year. The entire gay population of America would have to all get married in the same year to come close the number of children who are affected by divorce in just one year. So, if you want to marry your cat, then it is until death-do-you part.

  • The only sane thing anyone has done in the fight against abortion is the person-hood approach. All the other stuff is harassment of a LEGAL medical procedure in the US. If people REALLY wanted to stop abortions, they’d make contraception free and stand up a services that compete with Planned Parenthood in the market place without providing abortion. Honestly, it would not be hard to out-compete Planned Parenthood and get their federal dollars through the same federal program. But, are they interested in providing medical screenings and other issues? NO. They’d rather spend their millions (hundreds of millions!) trying to buy off politicians and cement their feelings of personal power. Do you know how many RVs could be outfitted to providing rolling women’s services for the money they’ve pissed away trying to get laws on the books. How many schools like the one in Detroit that provides pregnant girls and education and supports them through a pregnancy could have been stood up, staffed and run with those dollars?

  • We should replace the income tax with the consumption tax, and I don’t care if it is at a 85% rate. That would ensure that everyone, illegal, tourist, rich, poor pay according to their use. If you want to avoid taxes, then just buy used items. Wow, that would probably reduce the land fills a bit and add new depth to our wasteful consumption profile.

  • Hemp should be legal. Why do we import fiber/oils because our government thinks Americans and cops are too stupid to tell the difference between hemp and pot? And, personally, pot (and any plants that can be grown) should be legal.

  • Raw Milk should be legal. Why is the nanny state telling me what I can/can’t drink? If it’s labeled properly, then it should be legal.

  • Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are the closest programs that we have that could be called a Biblical mandate. So, until the income cap is removed from SS taxes and we are at war with no-one and those programs are still in trouble, only then should they be on the table for anything other than stream lining.

  • All income should be treated the same. There is no reason for Government to make a distinction between earned and unearned income.

  • We should go to single payer because that is the most cost effective way to provide health care in the US.

So, no. I’m not a ‘right winger’.

  • I have libertarian tendencies, but the local Libertarians are a bunch of conspiracy theorists who want air travel banned over chem trails.

  • I’m not a Democrat because they’re a whiny bunch who cave at the drop of a hat and spend all their time fighting amongst themselves.

That leaves me with Republican for registration purposes.

Enkel, sir, you are a Republican that I would be proud to call a friend and pleased to engage in many discussions. If I weren’t at work, I would be standing up and applauding the post above.

I pass you a white flag with a deep and humble bow… I’m just too cranky today and am going to go outside and use this energy to pound in fence posts instead.

You don’t sound much like any Republican I’ve ever known, with those views and those well-argued positions. Why, you sound practically human…

A nod and a smile will do nicely. And useful work is good for soothing the vexed spirit, if a six pack, a doob and a fishing pole are not practical.

This is a good point. I’m quite sure that the crack swiftboat-2012 committee was prepared, in the case of excessive humility on Obama’s part, to claim that he was putting TOO MUCH responsibility onto the troops, by making it completely about them, in an attempt to shield himself from criticism for some of the excesses of the mission–he was afraid, weak creature that he is, of being charged with violating Bin Laden’s rights as a enemy combatant, with violating Pakistan’s airspace, with wasting an expensive helicopter, and so he made out as if the whole thing were the troops’ doing. “Whatever happened to THE BUCK STOPS HERE, Obammer, huh?” etc yyybbb

Notice there’s no “I” and “me” when he’s taking responsibility for the economy. That would be because when he talks about the economy he talks about everyone but himself.

Leaders don’t take credit for the good while passing the buck for the bad.

So you’re not really interested in a conversation, just yelling at the thread? Okay then.

Notice that there’s not a lot that the President (any President) can personally do to fix the economy, especially when Congress is fighting all proposals tooth and nail.

The “I” and “me” stuff referred to were things he personally did. Which things related to the economy did Obama personally do that you feel he should step up about?

He should hand over his Visa card to Michelle and the girls with the Presidential Order “Shop till you lapse into a coma!” Just a start…
