It’s not. But the main fault lies with the leakers. The media believe the public has a right to know.

I haven’t been following the Julian Assange story lately, but wasn’t he hiding in an Embassy out of fear of being extradited to the US?

Yes. That is, for fear of being extradited to Sweden, but the real problem is that Sweden won’t guarantee not to extradite him to the U.S.

The U.S. has not charged him with any crime and is not seeking his extradition though. Not yet at least. I don’t know if there is a grand jury or something.
