Herman Cain: Action Hero

This thing just gets more amusing by the day. The only smart moves have been made by Romney. Bachmann and Perry both have self-inflicted gunshot wounds, as does Santorum. Cain is not a serious contender, as once you get past his populist BS, is as batshit crazy as Bachmann. Romney, as a seasoned politician, steps aside and lets them do the crabs in a barrel thing.

IOW, this means nothing, as always for straw polls.

Want more proof? Ron Paul in the last month won straw polls in New Hampshire and California and he has the same chance of getting the nomination as I do. (That site also says he finished a “strong fifth” in this straw poll. Heh.)

I don’t think there was an equivalent Florida straw poll in 2007 - at least I couldn’t find a mention of one in a quick search - but if there was I’d be curious to see the results.

Perry is in fast fade mode and needs a boost. This was not it. If he can’t beat Cain in a Florida straw poll, who can he beat? Sure as hell not Obama.

I love this.

In what? May of this year I asked why there were no Cain mentions in this forum. Political positions aside, the consensus that he didn’t stand a chance in hell. He wouldn’t last. He wouldn’t make it that far. I actually got blasted for questioning the general opinion of this forum.

4 months later he’s winning or at least placing well in major straw polls, he’s polling very, very well, then there was the whole Fox News debate with Frank Lunz group event, he pulls more people than Barack Obama’s announcement (and I loved that the liberal media quoted it at 3,000 tops despite park officials announcing that the attendance was upwards of 15,000 - they had to shut down multiple streets to accomodate more people - but Georgia is just a bunch of racists, huh?), etc.

FFS, Rick Perry was pushing and counting on a straw poll victory in Florida. So, Romney and Bachmann weren’t campaigning for it? Fine, but the current top dog (Perry) was and he got absolutely smashed by Cain. It wasn’t even close.

But yeah, you guys keep thinking he has no chance.

Oh, he certainly has a chance to win the Republican nomination; I would put no bizarre act past them. And some of his stances have a sensible sound to them. But he has no substance and no real solutions other than “Let’s quit talking about it and fix it”. Okay, so what’s your plan? Plan? Oh he doesn’t have a plan, just some tired cliches. McCain & Palin had a lot of populist notions also, and he was a much more formidable opponent than this character.

Cain won a straw vote of a little over 3000 voters. How does that translate into a serious contender. didn’t Plawenty win a straw vote and disappear? These votes do not natter at all.

The only significant thing about that straw poll was that Perry tried really hard to win and got crushed, not that Cain has a chance in hell.

You have to pay to vote in a straw poll, right? And don’t the candidates often cover that cost for their supporters, to boost their numbers? I have a hunch that this was a joke by someone with money to spare-- Colbert’s PAC, maybe?

You’re thinking of the Ames Straw Poll.

If you watch the announcement by Rick Scott you’ll see that the room of delegates literally goes nuts when he reveals that Cain won. Old women and all. They definitely voted for him.

Besides, here’s the requirement to be a delegate, and thus vote:

So, if it was a joke, they did so before Cain had even hinted of running.

The cap was 3,500 IIRC. As in, that was their limit well before the event got under way.

The straw vote was a non event. It was of no consequence except it damaged Perry who was supposed to dominate the south. But Cain is not a serious candidate . he is only in now because of an over inflated ego.

Ah, OK, scratch that idea then. It does sound like the sort of thing Colbert would do, though, doesn’t it?

The last straw vote winner was Plawenty. Other winners Bachmann, Ron Paul, Gary Johnson. They all went on to win the white house I guess.

Oh, and as to drawing more people than Obama’s announcement: Well, duh. Obama announcing that he’s running again is a complete non-event. Everyone’s known that since the first Wednesday in November, 2008. For him to announce is a mere formality. When someone whose candidacy wasn’t a foregone conclusion announces, though, that’s much more interesting.

He has no chance.

I’ll give you 2:1 odds if you want to make it interesting.

Zogby has Cain leading all candidates with 28% of the vote - and this poll was conducted prior to the Florida poll. Perry is at 18%, Romney at 17%.

This is exactly what Cain needs. A lot of people are questioning his electability, both in the party and out. It’s hard to ignore people backing him, which is what makes anyone electable in the first place.

Raising Cain, Cain vs. Unable, Rock You Like A Herman Cain, etc. I need to get on these bumper stickers.

So you’ll take my bet? I’ll put 100$ against your 50$ he doesn’t win the GOP nomination.

No thanks. I don’t gamble.

Oh joy, oh joy, oh joy.

Florida plans to move their primary to January 31st, 2012. I bet Romney, Bachmann, and crew wish they took their time in Florida a bit more seriously now.

If it comes to fruition, big win for Cain.

That’s what it looks like, considering all the focus on a third rate actor, it could only have been the product of said third rate actor. It still looks extremely tacky and confused. Especially the part with the stuntmen going at each other in the background while Searcy rants on.

I know most of you despise Fox News, but what the hell.

He will be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tomorrow (Friday) for anyone in interested.
