Heroes of El Paso and Dayton

In the midst of all of the horror and tragedy, I want to take a moment to give credit to two heroes that emerged from this week’s shootings.

Glendon Oakley is a soldier who was at the El Paso shooting. When he heard the shots being fired, he began gathering children and directing them to safety.

Kayla Miller is a nurse who was at the Dayton shooting. When she saw people who had been shot, she began giving them medical aid.

Both of these people were off duty. Both of them acted while shots were still being fired in their vicinity; they chose to help other people in a situation where their own lives were in danger.

The Dayton police were filmed running towards the shooter and engaging him. Their fast response made all the difference.

I hope they are awarded commendations for their bravery.
