Hurray for Dao!
Big hugs
That’s fantastic, Dao! Way to be!
Congratulations!
Big congrats…
But I have to admit that when I read the OP, I saw it as:
‘So it took 12 hours, both parents and a box of Kleenex, but I’m officially out **OF ** home.’ I DID wonder what all the fuss was about, not that leaving home is always easy, but, you know what I mean.
Still, biiiiiig congrats for your bravery and lots of back slapping and Aussie beer.
:: applause ::
Right on! Congrats, Da, and I’m glad your folks are being cool about it.
Hey Daowajan, congratulations! I’ve never had to go through this, as a striaght girl myself, but it must have taken a LOT of courage, determination, and inner strength. I’m glad your parents are being cool about it, and I hope that you’ll be able to be more open about things now that they know more fully who you are.
F_X
A big congratulations from this straight male for having the courage to be yourself. Hold your head high.
Bloody well done. Here, have some more Aussie beer.
Wheee Grats :))
Better out than in I always say…
With regards to your mom, let her have the time to get her head around it. It probably took you a long time before you had your head around it enough to get out to yourself, if you know what I mean. Let her know that if there is anything she wants to know about, then she should just ask. Its very embarassing when/if they do ask stuff, but better that than let her go around with a load of misconceptions.
Again, many grats!
As a person who’s parents will most likely go to their graves never actually accepting that there’s a REASON I’ve never brought anyone named Mary or Susan or Debbie home to meet them, I applaud you and your parents. (you have to understand, these are the parents who had to severly scold my younger sister and her future husband for living together out of wedlock - they did this in a formal “family meeting” - when my sister was 23. These are the same parents who, when they want to get frisky, still refer to it as a “back scratch” - eeewww.)
Must be nice to have it out in the open, so to speak.
Best,
karol
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
I waste bandwidth for you, O Unsheltered One. :D:D:D
Congratulations!
I’m sure you feel elated. I’m glad it all worked out well (I’ve known some people whose parents have/would disown them).
Congrats Dao!
I told my mum in a letter that the woman I was living with was not my housemate exactly. Her reply? “It is one thing to know, quite another to be told, I wish you had shown more restraint” and although it was some 20 years or so between that and her death that was all that was ever said on the topic… she did once confuse my labrys earring for a crucifix in a TV appearance and the thought I may also be turning Catholic somehow did warrant a firey discussion, go figure.
I am thrilled it went better for you, oh how sad it is that it is necessary to come out at all though. Life would be so much easier if folks got over assuming heterosexuality as the default in spite of all evidence to the contrary.
Congrats Daowajan.
I came out to my parents just last week myself. My mother cornered me about it when she found out the bar I was hanging out at was a dyke bar. It pretty much happened the way I thought it would, my parents have been real supportive. In fact my mom actually is getting a kick out of it. I was with her when she told some friends of ours. She said it like she was proud of it. Is that great or what?
It feels wonderful, doesn’t it?
(don’t feel bad about memorizing the colors, I had to check my pride flag to make sure myself.)
Applesauce! Applesauce!* The world needs more dykes, glad to have another one
(Oh, and as the inventor of the Rainbow Smiley of Death, it’s :):D:eek:
)
Congratulations on Coming Out. In a slightly better world, you’d have a cotillion thrown for you like when people used to Come Out for another reason. So I hereby declare the Daowajan Coming Out Début, Tea Dance and Fuckerware Party for Young Ladies and Gentlemen open.
Hugs!
Matt
