Well, what if you’ve contracted the Rage virus and they need to study you?
I have a strange problem with my neighbors dogs. In nice weather they spend a good chunk outside and its not generally a problem. But it becomes a problem when I let my dog out. My dog doesn’t bark, but the neighbors dogs bark at mine. Admittedly my dog does hang out near the fence, but I don’t like that I feel bad leaving my dog outside when she is not barking.
I don’t like the uncontrolled barking so my dog gets the short end of the stick and I bring her in every time, and she didn’t even do anything wrong.
I’d probably feel lucky that they hadn’t beat me over the head with a shovel, except I probably wouldn’t be feeling anything except Rage at that point.
You read all that and this is your response? Man, I need to work on my communication skills.
I didn’t threaten anyone. I did suggest that a call to the proper authorities might be in order if the behavior continues.
The guy’s behavior, not really the dog’s. Although I can’t stand the dog’s barking, it is a dog, and it’s not standing in the freezing weather barking because he enjoys it. At least I’m doubting it.
I don’t know if the dog even knows how to use the doggy door. What I do know is that he put one in after my first complaint woke him up at 3 AM. After the doggy door has been put in, the dog has still been outside for hours during the day barking. At night, I’ve listened for a good half hour before making the call because I didn’t want to over-react. But when everyone in my house is awake because of my neighbor’s dog, I figure I have an obligation to wake him up.
The dog, if it matters, is a mix-breed mutt of some type… a mid size dog, that seems to have some herding dog mixed in. He loves to bark. He is confined to a small yard and loves to run back and forth, barking at deer, birds, turtles, shadows, whatever. I don’t know how the dog doesn’t give itself a headache. Or lose it’s ability to bark.
I hate that dog.
Oh, and for whoever asked, I don’t want to be the dickhead neighbor that turned the neighbor in. The neighbor has kids who I assume are attached to the dog, so I’ve been trying to do the right thing. But my patience is running low.
This about sums it up for me as well. I feel your pain, Anaamika.
Just like comparing the treatment of humans to that of dogs.
Exactly. I asked this same question. How in the hell does that dog barking all day not bother you? All you have to do to stop the noise is to go out there, and bring the dog in. YOU FUCKHEAD!
Sorry.
This dog should be kidnapped also, since the children haven’t warmed up to it, the parents throw it outside at every opportunity, and all in all, it has a pretty crappy, lonely life. However, it’s not a likable dog. I can’t even get near it to pet it. It has tried to bite me in the past, and THAT’S not appealing. God help that dog if it DOES bite me. But, knowing the way the world works, I’d probably get sued.
I think I live next door to this neighbor, too! the dog has finally calmed down (or maybe they take him inside once in a while now) but for several months I was routinely awakened at 2 AM by the barking and whining. Talking to the neighbor and calling the city, who ended up issuing a citation, didn’t shut the dog up until recently.
You’re right, actually - we should treat animals better than humans because they have no way to leave or complain or have you arrested if you treat them badly.
I love dogs.
And cats.
BTDT? Sorry, off-topic but huh? Big time Dog tale? I give.
BTDT = been there, done that.
Just to be clear, are you saying that you think that leaving a dog chained outside and neglecting it until it wraps itself in its own chain and strangles itself is not torture? Or are you just objecting because you feel someone used a poor metaphor?
We have Labs and they only bark when they are inside. Of course, it’s always for a good guard dog reason–a car has pulled up the driveway, someone knocked on the door, the train goes by, a doorbell rings on TV, the dishwasher switches cycles, someone sets something on a hard surface, the ceiling fan clicks, the ice maker turns on…
Outside, no barking at all.
So instead you’re the dickhead neighbor who calls him at 3am to bring the dog in? Cause that’s how the neighbor looks at it.
I’d have no problem being thought of as a dick who called Animal Services and got a dog taken out of a miserable living condition. Anyone with a brain can see that isn’t dickish behaviour.
Also…why wait til spring? Why let the dog suffer unnecessarily until then?
Haven’t read the previous posts, but you handled it wrong threatening to call him out for animal abuse like that. Seriously, slow down buddy. I understand that it sucks being awaken like that, and obviously its taking its toll, but slow down. The fact that he put up a doggy door means he clearly isn’t leaving it out there intentionally. I don’t know if you were thinking about doing it because you wanted the dog gone, or if you’re really under the impression that it is a (dog) life threatening event (which it honestly probably isn’t,) but you did go a little too far with that.
I disagree. The owner obviously ignored the repeated barking that was loud enough to wake neighbors, and only put up the doggie door after the calls from OP. His behaviour is not that of one who sincerely loves a pet and a call to Animal Services isn’t out of bounds. It’s what they are there for.
Yeah, however nice this guy was on the phone, if the dog barked loud enough to wake up the OP no one ‘forgot’ it outside.
And of course the animal’s unlikable! It’s being treated like a feral dog!
