A murder of crows.

(Which sounds like a great title for a mystery novel…)

“John C., it looks like you have blended in very nicely.”
-UncleBeer

A leap of leopards.

a pack of wolves

I remembered another one- an exultation of larks.

Here’s something you can chew on:

BTW, I think many of these names were concocted ex nihilo by Parliament many years ago.

Of course, they thought they knew everything, so of course they said that a group of “wise” owls would be a “parliament.”

Yeah, right.

A business of ferrets (can’t you just see them all in their three-piece suits?)

thanks for the great link Mjollnir.
it was exactly what i was looking for

In “An Exaltation of Larks” ( a book on this very subject), James Lipton includes the following factual examples before getting creative:
Murder of crows
kindle of kittens
pod of seals
sloth of bears
rafter of turkeys
pace of asses
a walk of snipe
gam of whales
nest of rabbits
gang of elk
fall of woodcocks
dule of doves
wedge of swans
party of jays
company of parrots
colony of penguins
cover of coots
sord of mallards

D’oh. Goes on for longer than I thought. Find your own damn copy (mine is Penguin Books, 1977-- prob’ly reprinted since)

Not just animals:

A faculty of teachers
A partnership of lawyers
A troop of soldiers
A lineup of criminals
A proof of drunkards
A crap of gamblers

Hmmmm and all the time I thought it was a “piece of ass”

I really try to be good but it just isn’t in my nature!
