I don’t know if you were asking me, but Felipe Alou’s last name is Rojas. Alou was, I believe, his father’s name. His son Moises has the legal last name Alou due to his wife’s being unable to communicate that it was not supposed to be his last name. I think he has some children with the last name Rojas, but some actually using Alou.

Not a Spanish expert, but I think mother’s maiden name goes last in Spanish countries & father’s in the middle. Then in US, the mother’s name is dropped. I may have that reversed,however. Re: Alou, for sure the name is not close to ah-loo in spanish.

Ok, I am confused. My understanding of the construction of a Spanish name is:
First name
Middles name(s)
Father’s last name
Mother’s last name
And that even though the mother’s name ends the sequence, the legal last name is the father’s last name. Have I been misunderstanding this for all these years?

Of course, most Americanized Mexicans drop the mom’s last name, and use their father’s name exclusively, or use the mom’s name as a middle name. (At least here in Houston)
