Holy Crap. I have never managed to get through 30 seconds of this song before I turn the station, it’s so freakin’ bad.
That’s No Doubt? I was positive it was just another one of those faceless teen pop diva clones.

Huh, didn’t know she did a cover of Hey Jude.

Well, I must confess… while I’ll agree that Hey Baby is far from their best, No Doubt can do no wrong in my eyes. I have all their stuff minus Beacon Street*, and when I had to make myself a playlist for work, I was positively pained to cut it all down to two hours. Many call it selling out, but it seems like they’re maturing nicely from album to album.
*- You have no idea how many peoiple look at me like I’m nuts when I mention that anything existed before Don’t Speak.
Only if there’s a version they sung in a monotone…
My parents bought the album…they like that song…
This is what I fear the most of going back home…
AAARRRRGH!!! I need mental floss now…can’t…get… this out…of my…mind…
No, the Kylie Minogue lyric is, “Can’t get you out of my head”.
Oh, and if the next ChiDope involves karaoke, I am so not going. Someone’s gonna try to slip the above jarbabyj tribute in, I just know it.

:smack: It’s not that jarbabyj doesn’t rock, but karaoke is scary enough without people having a reason to sing this particular song.
I stopped digging No Doubt after Tragic Kingdom, with the exception of that song…“New”, I think. from that movie Go, which I never even thought of seeing, truthfully.
In any case, yeah. They’ve been going down the tubes, although Tony Kanal is still beautiful. Tom Dumont’s not bad either, actually… :drool smiley:
And silentgoldfish: You wouldn’t believe how loudly I laughed at your mention of Kylie Minogue’s current-ish masterpiece!
Hey!
No Doubt RULES!
Gwen is so awesome, she makes those teenyboppers look like les enfants. She is a REAL woman with a real shape and a real size, unlike Kylie and Brittany and the rest who are just toothpicks with boobs. She has real talent, which Brittany does not. She is witty and sarcastic and has a real personality, which Brittany’s is spoon-fed to her by her manager.
GWEN RULES!!!
Hey baby hey baby hey!

Gwen may be pretty cool (debatable, but I’ll go with it for now), but there is no denying that the “Hey Baby” song sucks dead donkey balls. Every artist has a low point, and I think this song is hers.
I’m not a huge No Doubt fan or anything (“Tragic Kingdom” was only OK, the self-titled “No Doubt” was marginally better), but I was shocked to find out that the “Hey Baby” song was theirs. SHOCKED, I tell you!
What, no one’s mentioned TATU yet? Unbelievable.
I mean REALLY…what’s so appealing about the musical stylings of two gorgeous, scantily-dressed Russian teenage lesbian schoolgirls, anyway?

And the music ain’t that bad either. Not that I was paying attention while the video was going…
My brother met Gwen Stefani after a No Doubt show at the Wetlands in NYC. She was hanging out in the basement lounge area. My brother said she was very friendly. The funny thing was that the turnout for the show wasn’t that great (and the Wetlands was not a big club), but Gwen was talking about how it was one of the best shows they had so far
A few months later they would be selling out arenas
I picked up No Doubt’s first album after hearing their track on the now defunct Moon Records’ “California Skaquake” compilation. I expected to hear a ska band when I bought their first album, but was disappointed when I heard a mediocre pop album. Tragic Kingdom was a little better, although by that point they had left ska far behind.
As for Gwen not being a toothpick with boobs, I should point out that one of my buddies in college, upon seeing the cover of the Tragic Kingdom album (a few months before No Doubt became popular) thought it was a porno CD-ROM
I thought Gwen looked better when she was a dirty blonde, more of a girl next door kinda thing
Replace Hey Baby with Eminem’s signature song from 8 mile and you have my sentiments. The freaking song just KEEPS GETTING PLAYED. Quite frankly, Rabbit needed to be murdered thanks to this song.
Personally I liked em before Tragic Kingdom. I just thought they were more raw and vibrant. Gwen had the cute tank girly thing going too.
I knew Gwen and the bunch from when they used to tour in that junky bus way way back and Eric was keyboarding for them before he took off. I lugged their equipment everytime they played Bogart’s in Long Beach and several other places. Damn Ade and his 900 pounds of junk he never used.
He has always been that nuts.
Still its nice to see friends long gone make it big. They worked hard for it.

**I have to listen to No Doubt’s “Hey Baby” at least three times a day on the radio station they play at my job. And I am seriously ready to kill someone. Don’t get me wrong; I like Gwen Stefani, and just about every song I’ve heard from this group is at least decent, but THIS. . . . .argh! It’s on AGAIN!
piece of crap has to be the worst excuse for a would-be hit I’ve ever heard! WHY, in the name of all that is good and holy, is this station still playing it? I mean, isn’t the album nearly a year old now?
The stupid chorus of “Hey baby Hey Baby Hey” is drilling itself into the tooth of my brain! I actually went and looked up the lyrics. In one full chorus they repeat:
Hey: 13 times
and
Baby: 10 timesAnd the chorus is repeated at LEAST 4 times! So I’m getting no less than 52 “Heys” and 40 “Baby”'s in one 4 minute song, for an average of 1 “Hey” or “Baby” every three seconds! Aaagh! Somebody save me! **
Hey, we all have problems, wanna know how many times I’ve had to hear, Nelly and Kelly Rowland ?
[de la soul]
Yo, man, I kinda like it!
[/de la soul]
Reminds me of old school Madonna. No pretense, just puuuure pop. I don’t get the Brittney comparisons at all. I find the song to be kind of fun.
Though I could see hating it if I had to listen to it all the time.
No Doubt were always just a party band. I appreciate their honesty.

**What, you’re surprised? Doesn’t anyone remember Don’t Speak? **
I remember that I was 12 or 13 at the time - the exact target age for overplayed Top 40 songs, and I liked most of them. I really liked that song for a while, but I swear, I have never heard anything be so overplayed in my life (with the POSSIBLE exception of some stuff from Alanis Morrisette’s “Jagged Little Pill”, but that was more like the whole album was on the radio all the time, not just one song).
I had to stop listening to the radio. I can’t even imagine what people with some TASTE went through. Yipes.

I don’t care how much of a “real woman” Gwen is- if she can’t make decent music, I don’t want to hear her on the radio!
