Didn’t O’Reilly grow up in Nassau, Long Island? Not exactly a poverty stricken area.
O’Reilly grew up in Levittown, Penn. (I believe? Or was in New Jersey? I am not from the East Coast so all these places mean nothing to me.) It apparently is known for not being a “fancy” part of town, anyway.
This is one of those things that is hard to define. I was born in Glendale California, which some people might know as a nice, middle class town. But the area I grew up in wasn’t that hot, especially when I was a kid (lo, so many years ago). We lived a humble life, where we didn’t eat out much, go to a lot of movies, and drove the same ratty car until its wheels fell off. Yet someone could say, “Well, you were in Glendale!” And my response would be, “So? Were you there when I was growing up? Did you see how we lived, how we ate, how we dressed?” I think that’s the kind of thing that was pissing O’Reilly off. I think it’s pretty rude to just assume you know all about a person’s childhood, and then go on to accuse them of lying about their past (which is what Kinsley basically did). I got no impression that Kinsley did a whole lot of comprehensive fact-finding about O’Reilly’s past. He just made an assumption, and spouted off about it. No wonder O’Reilly popped a cork. It doesn’t take much with him anyway.
And as far as “why was he snubbed at the party” thing - who will really know? O’Reilly interpreted it one way, Kinsley interpreted it another way. The only people who really know what really was going on are the people who left the party. But I will concede one thing - O’Reilly was at the party, Kinsley wasn’t. I think that O’Reilly may have more insight in the matter, compared to someone that wasn’t even there. But still - - O’Reilly’s a blow-hard, I can see him misinterpreting the reasons why the people left. I guess none of us will really know for sure.
So - O’Reilly’s to be on Drudge’s show tonight? That should be interesting.
