Hey, thanks for the notice that my sub was expiring

Tomayto, tomahto–you could consider it just another example of an old white woman misspeaking I suppose…

Well, it’s the fact that a pelf is normally considered to be wealth obtained dishonestly or unscrupulously that I object to. I earned my money honestly, dagnabbit!

I was speaking of my own relationship to the subscriber model, however and as noble as it may be for you to defend me from my own calumny I can assure you I’m in no danger, thanks…

Christ, so ‘no ads’ is now going to mean ‘no obnoxious ads’? I thought ‘no ads’ was going to mean ‘no ads’ once (or I guess I’ll say ‘if’) pay-to-post went away. I call bullshit. I already paid for this year, assuming no ads was going to actually mean no ads once the model changes. I guess it’ll be ad-blocker and no money from me next time around.

I thought the “pay for no ads” wasn’t on yet. My subscription was due to expire 5/10, so I resubscribed. If I’d know I wouldn’t have paid, I could put up with the ads.

And I don’t ever remember getting an expiration notice, ever, I just figured that was something adults were supposed to keep on top of themselves.

Dammit, I renewed early some months ago and have nothing to complain about.

I just resubscribed so I wouldn’t see the dreaded “Guest” under my name. Shudder.

How come everyone else got to keep Charter status?

I still have charter status, right?

ETA: right. Sorry you wasted your time reading this.

I got 2 notices. Maybe they sent me yours.

Brilliant!

Huh. I got an e-mail notice, and on time, to boot. I guess they just like me more than the rest of you.

Glad that there’s already a thread bitching about the lack of email notice. I also didn’t find out that my account had expired until this morning when I tried to post something. True I did see the “accounts are about to expire” sticky on top of the forums, but every other year they’ve emailed us reminders. I have far too many other things going on in my life to keep track of when my damn subscription to the SDMB expires. Oh well…I re-upped to get rid of the irritating ads. Have no idea about the charter status yet.

Happened to me, too, but I didn’t think it was Pit-worthy.

I got an email yesterday morning telling me my subscription expired…yesterday. Fortunately, I was able to get resubbed before I lost my magical charter member status.

Getting the message on a Sunday and on the day it was expiring was definitely a bit much. But considering the other hassles in my life, it’s really not worth getting upset over.

I haven’t received a notice either- but I resubscribed today. It would have been nice to get a notice though - just so I didn’t have to see all the ads.

This feels like a shot, albeit a weak one, so I offer a “screw you,” albeit a mild one. We have been notified in the past in a timely fashion that our subscriptions were expiring. Some of us do have better things to do with our time than keep track of when our message board subscriptions are expiring, or our magazine subscriptions need renewing, or what day the billing cycle closes on our credit cards.

I got an e-mail and immediately paid my $15. Wait… I was a Charter Member way back in the day. What happened?

So (this is not a bitch but a question):

What are we paying for? A month or two of what we used to get twelve months of for the same money, or a month or two of that, and a further ten or eleven months of something better than the freeloaders will get?

Say, this time six months from now, will I be seeing something less ad-laden than a two day-old newbie sees? Or not?

Yep!

Who knows? It’s part of the MYSTIQUE.
