Hey! They Promised me a Sequel!

The ending of 1982’s “The Sword and the Sorcerer” promised a sequel, with an equally alliterative title if I remember correctly. Still waiting on that one.

In books, there’s always The Last Dangerous Visions, originally announced for publication in 1974.

See the OP, unless this is a whoosh.

Still waiting for the next book in the “War against the Chtorr” series…

Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I’ve always thought that ‘Buckaroo Banzai’ was a highly over-rated, not funny or especially interesting character and movie. It seemed like an attempt to cash in on the ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Star Wars’ franchises, but without the genuine artistic inspiration behind it… just a bunch of Hollywood CEOs in a board-room slapping together a ‘zany iconic character’ from which they could generate lots of ancillary merchandise. “No matter where you go, there you are,” is the single-most idiotic & overused lines from movie-dom. IMO, ‘Banzai’ did not deserve a sequel.

Holy crap, how did I miss that? I must be brain dead today. Sorry about that.

Squabbling between Pixar & Disney may prevent an Incredibles 2.

Thus proving that CEOs are all swine.

Well, heck, squabbling between the parties involved already squelched any possibility of a Roger Rabbit II.

I too saw the thread title and knew what the first movie you would list. I’m waiting for that one too.

And you felt the need to share that with us in this thread why?

Conan the Destroyer, like its predecessor, ended with portentious narration about further tales to be told.

Mercifully, there weren’t.

Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires

The Lemony Snicket movie could have run to several sequels, since it was made from the first 3 parts of what was eventually a 13-part series of books. I would have liked to see at least one more. I suppose the kids got too old too quick.

I really enjoyed Anne Rice’s The Mummy (Ramses the Damned) which had on the last page “The adventures of Ramses the Damned shall continue”. That was 18 years ago and Anne has become Catholic and decided she will “write only for the Lord” it seems that will never happen.

Nothing was promised, but when **Interview With The Vampire ** turned out to be a pretty successful movie, I was sure we’d get The Vampire Lestat in short order. Instead, eight years later we got the half-assed Queen of the Damned movie with none of the cast returning from Interview.

Oh! And I would love to have more Lemony Snicket movies. I really liked the first one despite the focus on Jim Carrey’s mugging. I thought they had the tone and the look of the movie just right.

And I always wanted a sequel to Big Trouble In Little China.

I think this has been debunked since but I remember hearing that Big Trouble in Little China WAS Buckaroo Bonzai Versus the World Crime League at one point. Clearly it went through some rewrites.

Yeahbut, Disney now owns Pixar, and Disney animation has been largely taken over by John Lasseter and others from Pixar. What sort of squabble could survive that?

ME too!!!

Not explicitly promised, and it’s more of a prequel than a sequel, but a lot of Lord of the Rings fans were hoping Peter Jackson would take up The Hobbit. He’s since been trying to, but his own squabble with New Line Cinema is killing the movie by slow degrees.

I’m holding out hope for The Madness of George IV.

And of course there was the strong implication that part 2 of Ralph Bakshi’s version of LOTR would be forthcoming.
