All that’s missing is his cigar…
Robert MITCHUM played Max Cady! Have you no culture, man?
Yeah, but DeNiro was in the better version.
What do they teach these kids in school these days?
As I said in that other thread, Robert Mitchum!
And as I said in this thread, better version!
No, Robert Mitchum was in the better version!
Saw them both. Scorcese wins again!
Really, perhaps it’s a matter of perspective. From where I sit, Mitchum played a small-time hood who knew a bit of law (more, apparently, then the lawyer he was fighting  ) while DeNiro, otoh, played a truly scary person who was made that way because of the wrong that Nolte committed (can’t remember the good guy’s name and I can’t be arsed to look it up at the IMDB).
The later version is easily the superior version - no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
I’m not usually a big fan of Juliette Lewis, but the scene between her and DeNiro is terrific. She plays the gawky, gangly teenage girl perfectly - and you can see that she’s just enthralled.
“Come into my parlor, said the spider to the fly…”
There’a another thread about this? Dammit. [sub]grumble[/sub]
plnnr, did you know most of that scene was ad-libbed? Juliette Lewis didn’t know that DeNiro was going to kiss her, so her reaction was genuine.
So! Nick Nolte busted for DUI! How 'bout that, eh?
[sub]Sorry, Dooku, I gave it a shot…and DeNiro’s performance was embarrassingly overwrought…[/sub]
