Drives me nuts. I get this all the time. Once a guy said this to me in a bar. I was drunk and answered “I’m not a girl, I’m a man in drag.” From there it all deteriorated into a “Show me your penis”, “No, you show me yours” situation. It was the only time the statement of the obvious has led to an even remotely interesting conversation. And it was only interesting because I was drunk.
Another interesting one I get quite often - as soon as I open my gob essentially - is “Hey!! You’re an American!!”
I’ve been told the accent is changing to that lovely mid-Atlantic state - English/American. If people have cheesed me off to no end then I will put on a horrible Dick Van Dyke impression on top of my already odd accent. People don’t know whether to laugh or to be offended…
Come on folks! I look American, even by all stereotypical standards…
To me, this is a funny situation, not one to be truly offended at, but it can get old when in a group situation and being told this by nearly everyone you meet. I actually like being told they thought I was English. It makes my day even
