Hey, yeah you, read this

Then smell it. It says “you are the shit”. You should be able to smell that at least.

Ahh, don’t forget, Thomas Hardy started at least five novels with an article… and a Bank Holiday crowd was there to watch…

Sports Announcer: Hello and welcome to Dorchester where a very good crowd has turned out to watch local boy Thomas Hardy write his new novel ‘The Return of the Native’… And the crowd goes quiet now as Hardy settles himself down at the desk, body straight shoulders relaxed, pen held lightly but firmly in the right hand, he dips the pen in the ink, and he’s off, it’s the first word, but it is not a word… oh no it’s a doodle way up on top of the left hand margin. It is a piece of meaningless scribble, and he’s signed his name underneath it.

Oh dear what a disappointing start, but he is off again and here he goes the first word of Thomas Hardy’s new novel, at 10:35 on this very lovely morning, it’s three letters it’s a definite article and it’s THE!

Second Announcer : Well this is true to form, no surprises there. He started five of his eleven novels to date with a definite article. We’ve had two of them with ‘IT’, there has been one ‘BUT’, two 'AT’s, one ‘ON’ and a DELORES. But that of course was never published.

First Announcer : I am sorry to interrupt you there Dennis, but he’s crossed it out! Thomas Hardy here on the first day of his new novel has crossed out the only word he has written so far and he is gazing off into space. Ohh! Oh dear he’s signed his name again.

Second Announcer : It looks like Tess of the D’Urbervilles all over again…

Ignorance fought. A little. That’s what we’re here for.

You people are all a bunch of the shits.

An article like “a”, “the”, “an”.

Articles and determiners specify and identify nouns, and there are indefinite and definite articles . Examples : articles : a, an, the; determiners: these, that, those, enough, much, few, which, what. Some traditional grammars have treated articles as a distinct part of speech .Mar 11, 2020

See, that was an article about articles.

Lol thats awesome

“this” is an anagram of “shit”

Is your Avatar you? I kept thinking it was the guy from Breaking Bad at first.

No its Micheal “Eyedea” Larson the MC (rapper) in Eyedea & Abilities.
How about your avatar is that you

very good

Wasn’t asking you, actually your avatar looks like an old friend of mine though.

oh my bad I didn’t see a reply referenced figured it could be directed to me since its my post yet he definitely doesn’t look like anyone from breaking bad, maybe the son kind of. (My avatar)

It is a late-era image of my hero, the inestimable Miss Molly Ivins.

Ahh ok Thanks I was just curious.

That’s one of the quirks of Discourse. If you reply to the most recent post the software removes the reply indicator, because it assumes that it’s so obvious that a person is referencing the last post that the indicator is redundant.

Clearly it’s wrong or you wouldn’t have been confused. (I personally don’t like that feature much, I like the reply to be explicit if I click to reply to a post.)

My avatar isn’t me. It’s a good friend’s daughter. I loved how her hair color came out that time.

I thoroughly agree.

I also wish people would make it clear what post they’re replying to.

If you want to reply to the most recent post AND you want to quote that post in your reply, highlight it as usual and click the “quote” button, then when the quote appears in the reply window, you have to add something to it – I usually add a dash. You have to make some kind of change to it in order to make it appear in the quote window.

I’ll illustrate with BBB’s quote:

See how I tacked a dash on to the end of her statement?

I usually include a quote like the one above. That obviously clarifies the situation.

The thought is nice, but I doubt posts or IRL comments like this help people who are clinically depressed. They need to realize that they need professional help and, quite often, medication. Without that, all the feel good comments in the world aren’t going to change their outlook.
