The Good:
Fun to see the multi-million dollar apartments/condos/penthouses/townhouses in NYC and even some estates outside of NYC. Amazing interiors, some outrageous prices and cool features.
The Bad:
The real estate agents give a whole new definition to the word “obnoxious”. Pretentious, condescending, arrogant and superficial phonies, the insincerity of every brown-nosing agent oozes from the screen.
The Ugly
Michelle Kleier and her daughter are the worst agents of the lot. I would rather sleep in a cardboard box under the freeway than have to deal with either of them in a real estate deal. They are gossip mongering, nasty people with not a shred of ethics - on one show, Michelle takes delight in hearing of a nasty divorce by clients who bought real estate from her - as now she can sell new property to both of them - yet she maligns them on-camera. The daughter moans about having to do such hard work as taking snapshots of interiors of condos and then having to email them to clients! In one day!! To hear her yammer, you would think she had to go to a quarry and carve marble for the floor and schlep it up to the 48th floor of a walk up. Poor baby - it is taking away quality time from long lunches. And just seeing them interact with potential clients - well, not pretty.
I’m with you in that I like the show as far as seeing the properties in New York City that they show. I’m always shocked at how much those places go for and how little people get for the money. Also there have been a few episodes where the customers were dead set on living in a certain neighborhood.
I do agree that most of the agents I’ve seen have a skewed sense of what hard work is. I remember one episode where two agent went to…New Hampshire? Connecticut? Someplace like that to look at some vacation/weekend houses for a client. They spent like two days there and saw three houses…really? You have nothing else to do up there but look at houses, and it takes you over 2 days to see 3 houses? Sheesh
Regarding customers dead set on living in a certain neighborhood, I can see that. Having lived in NYC, it is amazing how one neighborhood is lively, with great restaurants and shops and cafes, etc. whereas five blocks away it can be isolated from any shopping or sometimes, a flat out dangerous area. Considering people like to walk to shops and restaurants whenever possible, it is something you take into consideration if you have the money and opportunity.
And yes, that episode where they “had to” go and look at homes (mansion estates) and made it seem like they had to go to work in a coal mine for all the effort they were putting into it. Geez…and when they have a potential commission on sales of upwards of $1 million or more, you would think strolling through a palatial estate would not exactly be drudgery. Little more cheese with that whine, ladies?
