Sounds like an excellent reason to buy some image stitching software and a quality tripod. Take multiple pictures with a decent digital camera and stitch them together to produce an image file suitable to do prints from. If you’re planning on doing prints of lots of pieces, it could pay for itself pretty quickly.

The quality isn’t the same as with scanning, plus it’s incredibly difficult without a professional studio setup to get the pictures with even lighting and no glare. (That is what I tried before I went to scanning).
