Highway Thru Hell Question

The segments end when the jobs are completed. There’s nothing about who actually pays for the various services provided. Anyone knows who pays the towing companies?

Not a factual answer regarding the TV show, but when I have one of my cars towed or extracted from off road, I pay and my insurance reimburses me.

Wouldn’t all, those trucks have to have insurance?

You might find THIS interesting.

Insurance comes in many guises. Some of the bigger fleets will self-insure and pay for recovery from their own resources. Some car drivers may only have third party insurance (usually those with an old banger) and they would have no insurance company to claim from.

It’s common these days for people to search for the cheapest possible insurance - this may not be the best policy, (pun intended)

Side note : I got AAA a few years ago for my wife and I. I discovered through experience that they won’t cover the cost of pulling out a stuck vehicle if it’s a plow truck. A pickup with a blade on it.

Some episodes have addressed this. As with all things, it varies.

Jamie has contracts with some of the big carriers, and they just pay (though probably at an end-of-month timeline. There was at least one episode where he spends the entire episode whining about having to call to get paid.)

For trucks stuck in the ditch, jackknifed, or simply unable to make the hill, usually they get paid right there, cash or card I assume.

For the huge truck down a 200 foot incline, two rotators required, those are covered by the insurance company. In some episodes the insurance rep is there overseeing the recovery. I think recoveries like that can cost like 20K (US or Canadian, I dunno). or maybe more.

There was one episode where the insurance company didn’t want to pay Jamie’s rate, so he packed up and went home.
