A practical suggestion for Der Tzitung: If you ever want to show a picture of Goldie Meir being sworn in as prime minister of Israel, show her in a bear suit.
You know, something’s not right here. Government-produced photos are in the public domain, once they’ve been publicly released. I don’t think it’s legal to prevent others from manipulating them.
The government can’t prevent you from manipulating them, but you might find yourself unceremoniously unsubscribed from the relevant distribution list thenceforth.
Hasidic-owned papers would probably not have had much occasion to print her picture anyway, as most American Hasidim range from ambivalent about the State to outright hostility. As such, whoever the Prime Minister of Israel was (whether it was Golda Meir or anyone else) would not have mattered too much to them.
