Hilton Head restaurant suggestions?

So, for a business thing I have to go to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a solo weekend. I’ll be staying at the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort (stop by if you’re in the neighborhood).

I’d really rather not go, but I don’t have a choice. So I’m placating myself by planning on hitting a couple of nice restaurants. I will not be renting a car (flying to Savanah then taking a shuttle) but I can get a taxi.

Any suggestions for a good seafood place? And a great sushi place? Maybe a beer bar as well??

Thanks.

I’m going to move this over to Cafe Society.

Thank you. lifts feet

I go there all the time to enjoy the beach. Not the food, however…it is good, not great. Savannah, on the other hard, is a great place to eat. I can name many places there if you are eating on your way out. You wouldn’t be disappointed!

Skullcreek Boathouse is fairly good food. Last time I went I had the lobster and it was done well. The drinks are a little heavy-handed and pricey, but the beer selection wasn’t terrible. The outdoor seating is beautiful this time of year with it just now cooling down.

Black Marlin Bayside Grill and Hurricane Bar has better food in my opinion. It is more Southern and authentic. The bar I cannot attest to, though, as everytime I go there I bring my dogs and I don’t think I could control them if I were intoxicated. Again, great outdoor eating there.

I’d love to meet up with you and rub elbows with a real live doper (and Seinfeld fan!) but I will be welcoming my sister and her fiance this week. If you get in a jam feel free to PM me and I’ll see if I can’t dig the hole a little deeper.

Damn! I’ll only be in Savanah a few minutes; my shuttle is all prearranged.

I used to go to Hilton Head a lot during my marriage. My buddy had a Hobie Catamaran and we would haul it down, share a place, and sail. Back then we cooked in most days. Restaurant meals were at places you could take kids.

That sounds like a nice time - home cooked meal and a little sailing. It’s strange that Hilton Head has such a wealthy golf community and yet so few high-end restaurants. I suppose rich golfers don’t like to eat and drink? Or perhaps they just hole up in their country clubs…?

Grab a drink while you’re waiting for your shuttle - Savannah is an open container city. If by any chance you have an hour to eat Molly MacPherson’s tavern has excellent pub food and a range of whiskey and beer that will blow you away.

Cool!

I vacationed there a few years ago for a family reunion. We had dinner at The Crazy Crab (family-friendly & reasonable prices), and the Sunset Grille (great views, food was pretty average).

I also wished we had more time in Savannah. Such a charming city.

We don’t go to the upscale places. Our favorite (or Mrs. FtG’s actually) is Kenny B’s French Quarter Cafe on Pope Ave. A sort of hole-in-the-wall place with New Orleans style food.

Hudson’s Seafood has been there longer than the golf courses have. For good reason. They have their own boats, so if you are looking for fresh (and if you aren’t you should be), there is no other. It is well situated for sunsets, too.
