Hello Everyone!
I have been taking OTC sleeping pills, specifically diphenhydramine( aka benadryl) for about 14 years now. I was taking an average of 400 mg ( 8 max. strength pills) every night. I have quit cold turkey, it has been 14 nights since I have had any. I am still going through major physical withdrawal. Hot flashes, itchy & watery eyes & nose, my stomach all knoted up, and most recently my skin all over my entire body is crazy itchy! How long will this last? Has anyone ever quit & experienced these horrible physical withdrawals???

There is another thread right now on this subject. The general consensus is that benadryl is not addictive. One explanation is that your very heavy use of benadryl has covered up an allergic response which you are only now seeing (I am not a doctor and that is just a WAG). I would go to a doctor and ask.
