Hiring drivers for long trips

Taxis generally service specific cities.

What if I wanted to hire a driver to take me on a long trip (1 hour or more) from one city to another, without paying the kind of exorbitant fees a typical cab would charge?

Is there an economical way of hiring a driver for this kind of long-distance trip?

Some cab drivers will turn off the meter and accept a cash offering for a long trip. I once (with two friends) took a cab from Montreal to Ottawa this way. That’s about a 120 miles maybe. We offered him $100 and I believe we ended up giving him $150 since he appeared frustrated by the amount of time it was taking. This was, gee…about 22 years ago I guess.

Try a limo service that has non-stretch cars available.
