Is it a deeply moving statement about Hiroshima with a love story stuck on it, or a love story with an attention grabbing start? Is the Hirsohima theme a set up for her own “crime” in World War II France?
I think the them of war, in the movie, is to be taken as a metaphore. It is, first and foremost a movie about love. It is extremely pessimistic in that its main them seems to be that you cannot be truly know, or feel for, what someone else has gone through.
