Hispanics in America shouldn't celebrate 4th of July this year?

I don’t know if Hispanic people have any particular movement going on, or if this is some ploy to sow division, but I can certainly sympathize with people who don’t get much of a vote or say in how we run things here, if they choose not to celebrate the independence of the people who do get to vote and say.

Hispanics do get a vote and say. Some are judges, congressmen, senators…

Hispanic people also get all kinds of additional challenges, such as police profiling, that white people don’t have to deal with.

Hispanics come in all colors, sizes, shapes and looks the human species has produced (well, ok, there’s probably a shortage of Hispanics with Bambuti ancestry). Hispanic does not refer to a specific set of looks. Could you please drop your own prejudice, or at least give it a try, before you swoop down to save a whole cultural family from the evils of prejudice?

That does sound more like a right wing rumor. Maybe started by a few people who were genuinely talking about it, but not widespread. It definitely doesn’t correspond with how anyone I know feels about the situation. It’s not the entirety of America that is the problem, and it would not make sense to let the flag become the exclusively the symbol of those who are.

Now kneeling when the flag is shown? That I could see. Coming with both an American flag and a flag representing your history? Sure. Having a multi-cultural celebration, to show that America still means all of us? Those sound more like the type of thing that would have widespread appeal.

Since I spend a lot of time on what you would consider “right wing” news sites, I can say, no, it’s not a right wing rumor. This is the first I’ve seen or heard of it.
