Historical Party Dominance Across All Three Branches of US Government

To use the current dominant power as an example, I’m assuming the Democrats’ current control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency is rather unremarkable, and not that dominant in comparison to, say, FDR’s during his historic four term Presidency. I would guess that that was probably the point in history that the Democrats held most power, but am just assuming, and tried a couple searches to try to find out, but none of my search terms are returning useful results.

At what points in the United States’ past have the major parties held the most power, and how long did they hold onto it? Relatedly, when they lost power, was it a gradual change, or did they get thrown out on their ears as the Republicans were over the past two years?

Nope. I ran a half-dozen google searches, and assumed any pertinent wikipedia pages would pop up, but I guess I didn’t use very good terms because nothing came back.
