Historical staircase to the mad wife in the attic found (à la Jane Eyre)!

I saw this story in this morning’s paper. It appears that a secret staircase has been discovered in the old house that Charlotte Brontë used as a model for Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre. The staircase gives access to an attic, just like the one where the mad Mrs Rochester was kept confined in the novel. Intriguing!

To take care of that squirrel problem, eh wot?

Did it really?

It’s been years, but I remember a door under a tapestry that led directly to the hidden room. Were there stairs?
