Hit Me! Or better yet...Hit YOU

Blackjack players play a tried-and-true system based on probability that slightly improves your chances of winning. It’s not all that difficult to pick up. (Here’s a good table showing what to do when, under this basic strategy.)

Players playing “the system” tend to get peeved when others don’t.

The above facts give absolutely no one the right to be an overbearing asshole to anyone else, however. Rather than being an obnoxious prick, the guy should have simply gone elsewhere.

Hell; with the seven-deck shoes most non-Vegas casinos play nowadays, it doesn’t really matter all that much. They’re usually chopping a deck-and-a-half of cards off the end anyway, at which time they’ll reshuffle. It rather negates the slight advantage playing the system provides.

As I pointed out in a recent thread here in the Pit coming at this issue from the opposite perspective, I sat next to a woman who STAYED ON 14 against a dealer’s 10, the hand after she HIT ON 16 against the dealer’s bust-card 5.

But this is America. Everybody has the unalienable right to play stupid cards and give their money away. The answer is to change tables.

I think the posts thus far are mainly missing the point.

Why didn’t you just complain, and have him removed? Most casinos are trying hard to keep a “good, family fun image”, and it seems that they would have at least moved him to another table.

If the quotes in the OP were pretty much spot on, I don’t see why the dealer didn’t do anything. Unless the guy was some sort of whale I don’t see why they would put up with it.

My dear, had you said this to him, he would have crawled away and looked for a place to die.

The dealer thought it was a riot. She was laughing with him. The key to the story was, he was losing all of his money right along with me…so I just figured he could leave when he wanted to.
