Inspired by this thread: has there ever been a HOA sit-com? Seems like a natural- all the petty politics and controlling weirdos, plus plots would be readily available from people submitting their horror stories, kinda like with Dilbert. The exterior shots could be economical because every unit would be sickeningly similar- except for the few scofflaws who try to bend the rules.
The closest I think we get is Morty Seinfeld’s retirement community elections in Seinfeld. But you’re right - it’s ripe for a sitcom.
Frasier had several encounters with the HOA board at his building. I believe one of them had him ending up in charge, to his eventual dismay.
Agree - it would make as good a premise as any, and better than most. You could also accommodate cast changes easily.
Be careful - someone will try to take cameras into a real HOA meeting and call it a reality show!
Retired at 35 disappeared from the TV schedule after nobody noticed it was even on it.
I’d love to see a *Seinfeld *spinoff about life in Del Boca Vista Phase II, anyway.
HOA boards can be wacky, but co-op boards have BY FAR the most discretionary power.
They are the ones who can actually stop people from buying a unit, just because. I can definitely see some sort of show revolving around some of these stories:

WKRP had an episode which featured a condo association and the controlling weirdos in charge. It’s the one in which Johnny and Venus pretend to be gay so Johnny can get out of the condo contract that he was conned into.
ETA: after reading #6, that may have been a co-op.
HOA/condos - “Three Days of the Condo”
“Gone With the Wind Estates.”
Apropos of the OP’s user name, “The Riches” had several run-ins with a CC&R Nazi during their tenancy in a posh gated community.
That would be interesting, but I wonder how many of the Seinfeld alums that were involved are still alive? It would probably require a mostly-new cast.
“Who Are You Calling A HOA?”
Suburgatory had several episodes that dealt with HOA issues.
I liked the *X-Files *take on it
S06E15
Rob and Laura Petrie sure got to the bottom of that case!
Murphy Brown had a HOA episode (it involved having to get permission from her neighbor to make changes, so she cut a deal with him that they wouldn’t object to each other’s changes, but after the neighbor’s were approved, it turned out that the neighbor cuoldn’t give his permission for Murphy’s changes since he was actually a squattor on the property).
American Dad also had one; Stan stepped down as head of his HOA, only for Roger in one of his disguises to take over and make Stan’s life miserable (example: the area directly in front of Stan’s house was now a red zone) just because Stan forgot to put Roger’s bottle of cola in the refrigerator.
An HOA sitcom could be the next Night Court, or it could be the next Mixology.
They did an HOA episode on American Dad!, with Roger using it to pester Stan: scheduling trash pick-up for the wee small hours of the morning, installing high-powered streetlights hooked up to motion sensors – and bribing the other homeowners, with hedge-height exemptions or permission to repaint a house, such that lots of folks are suddenly on board with the arrangement that gets a car towed away from the new no-parking spot.
Sure the writers probably wouldn’t have to invent stupidity and craziness, but what would the actual structure of the show be? Would we have a sane but powerless cast member, one the audience can view the world through? Would we focus on the board of directors, or the neighborhood in general?
Another thing that makes a big difference in what the housing is, condoos, townhouses, or single-family homes?
Not powerless, but needing the cooperation of the others is funnier. See Night Court, Vicar of Dibley, etc.
In fact, you could do a lot worse than just rip-off the Night Court structure.
The outside HOA manager would be a good job for that role. I know a lot of them through my wife’s work, and they always seem exasperated.
