Hold onto your butts Mid-Atlantic Dopers. Here comes Isabel!!

Aaargh! I’m flying into NY LaGuardia; what do you think are the odds of travel there being disrupted, too? (The wedding is on the Jersey shore, but I’m going to Dad’s house for a couple of days first.)

I’m just worried about my poor cousin, who is probably going bonkers right now. They’d planned a tent in case of drizzle, but somehow I don’t think it’ll stand up to a hurricane…

Pssst, Gopher, the hurricane is in NC, not California…

I saw where the balance of flights into BWI tonight have been canceled. Wonder if I’ll be able to get there tomorrow evening?

Just talked to the spousal unit a few minutes ago. He said it’s windy in Baltimore harbor, but not too bad yet. He just lay down for a nap, in preparation of a noisy, stormy night. Poor baby.

Dare I say that it’s sunny and low 90s in northeast Florida right now?

Well, it’s getting a bit windy here now. The rain still isn’t very heavy. I just tried to call my brother in Chesapeake Beach, MD and got no answer and his machine didn’t pick up. I’m guessing his power is out (he only has a cordless phone). If so, we might not hear from RT, since they only live about a mile from each other.

I’m in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia. Just now I went out as the wind was picking up. At about a quarter past five there was a moderate rainfall, small raindrops, but I looked up and saw “sheets of rain” cascading through the air. I had always thought you get sheets of rain only in a very heavy downpour. It was the wind starting to kick up that formed the rainfall like that. I had never seen this phenomenon in a moderate rain until now.

I’m at UM College Park (a bit north of DC). Power just went out here for about 5 minutes. Good thing I have a laptop. I think they said that the university would be able to power everything except A/C if the outside power goes out, though, so that’s good. Lotsa rain, lotsa wind.

My ex-boss in Falls Church City wrote about 4 pm her time that winds were at 40 mph and a neighbor nearby was already without power. With all the news media in DC, you’d think we’d have seen something from there already; but I guess all the reporters headed off to the beach because it’s more dramatic.

Anybody else ever seen the woman Papa Tiger has often told me about, Barbara White, who lives in Guam and who likes to go stand out and report in 150 mph+ typhoons? (Papa Tiger, who often has more than one loose screw himself, describes her as “crazy,” and from the few glimpses I’ve seen of her I’d say his description is an understatement!)

Power just came back here in my section of Loudoun County, VA.

The Washington Post is reporting that 700,000+ people are without power and we were some of them for an hour.

Trying to get some work done quick.

RT and all we can’t hear from…be well.

We’ve still got power. Just a little bit of rain, and wind gusting at around 25 mph.

Hubby called a little bit ago. Harborview Marina has no power. So he has no TV, no Internet, No microwave. I had a hard time hearing him over the clanging of the halyards on the mast - and he was belowdecks!! It was just a tad breezy.

Well, the wind just picked up dramatically, I’m hoping the power holds up. It’s raining harder. I tried to do an mpeg of what’s going on and it’s too dark to actually see anything.

According to Martin State Airport the winds are now 28 mph, gusting to 39, as of 10 minutes ago.

FCM, what’s he doing on his boat? I would think that’s a bad place to be in a hurricane…

Well, I’m not sure. The fallout from the storm is supposed to reach pretty far north, even over to Ohio. I’d call to make sure. :frowning:

This is one of those times when I’m real glad I moved to a second-story apartment.

While running home from Phila this afternoon, 30+ electric company line trucks from Detroit Edison were observed along the PA turnpike rest stop. Another 2 dozen were seen in transit. I’m betting PECo has called for assistance in advance.

As for me, rain is steady and winds are picking up. The downside of living in the woods is that I have trees on all sides that can hit the house if blown over. I’m hopeful that my love of trees will afford good karma.

Good wishes to all MADs!

I just got back from Annapolis. The Bay, Kent Narrows, Nice and Key bridges are closed due to wind. The Harbor Tunnel is completely under water. Rain was very hard arround Annapolis, but by the time I got to Glen Burnie it had slackened. I expect the hard rain to be here shortly. The guy on WBAL advised people to stay in except in case of emergency, and “picking up a 6-pack is not an emergency”. What does he know?

So far I am disappointed :frowning: It’s vaguely rainy with a little wind. WHERE IS MY STORM DAMMIT!?

lots of wind but not much rain in phila. we do have 50 mph gusts here. i was amazed at the amount of tree bits on the streets. i did hear something in my neighbour’s yard go thunk-whoosh. it seems like the rain is gonna go rather west of here.

interesting that ont. may get it worse than some parts of the us. it looks like isabel is gonna hook up with a great lakes storm. she must have gotten the time wrong on the reservations, 'cause she has really picked up some traveling speed. i was hoping she would stick around a bit and give me the day off tomorrow.

High winds continue; leaves and small branches everywhere. Idiot neighbor has forgotten wash on clothesline in backyard

No rain yet here in NYC, 10 pm. Dang.

Still have power, lots of wind and a bit of rain here. I was expecting worse, but you won’t hear me complaining.

It’s a bit rainy here on LI, and certainly windy as hell. Isabel is now down to a tropical storm. I wish everybody the best; as long as my 9 am flight from LGA gets out and I get to Chicaog safely, I’m good.

On the other hand, if anything happens to the plane for reasons of inclement weather or inclement bin Laden, consider yourselves spooked by my premonition.
