Flickering lights, and now nothing. The beeping of the UPS tells me I must bid you all adieu.
Perhaps to return another day, to post again. Be strong, all.

I can’t help but feel somewhat misled by all this.
We got some rain (heavy at times but not torrential) and some mid-level winds. Nothing exciting other than losing power for an hour.
Of course, watch the sun come up and I’ll find we’re in Oz or something.
At least I have the day off in recompense for being THE MAN yesterday.
I expect downtown Baltimore is not the place to be today. My husband called and told me how high the water was at his marina - I’m estimating 8-9 feet above normal. Thank goodness they’ve got floating docks - otherwise, there would be a lot of boats under water. He got thru the night just fine, except that he’s had no power since early yesterday evening. His plant is closed today, so he’s just going to hang around and veg.
I have no idea whether my flight will go this afternoon, and if it does, if I’ll be on it. There are a lot of stranded folks and I’m in no rush, so we shall see if I’m in Baltimore tonight or not.
JC, you’re always THE MAN in my book!
Yeah! I wanna know where the damage and destruction are! I wanna see corpses littering the street! Well, maybe not corpses, but at least dead tree branches.
I woke up this morning at six and went outside. It’s still a little windy, and it’s shaping up to be a nasty day, weather-wise, but no large tree branches, flooding, or corpses can be found.
So Airman and I both have the day off today, because my classes were cancelled due to the weather. Ship almost never cancels classes due to the weather, but apparently there was enough of a concern for safety (or at least keeping students off the sidewalks so the maintenance people can clean up, if need be) that it was justified. Not that this is a problem for me, mind you. I’m looking forward to a little quality snuggle time with my family.
Robin
Corpses???
MsRobyn, you crack me up!
Baltimore city checking in. Power at my office (in AA county, near Annapolis) went out about 3:30 yesterday so the few of us left went home. The power stayed on all night here, but I’ve been calling the office and no one seems to be there as yet. They closed a couple of streets by the Inner Harbor because of a few inches of water, but Fells Point is under 4-5 feet of water. Looks like a number of cars have been submerged. Fortunately high and dry here, but I may need to move my car to a non-metered space.
My sister works at a pub on Thames Street in Fells Point. So their basement is full of water, and possibly into the first floor. Not good.
Steve just called again - apparently the pilings at the marina by the Rusty Scupper weren’t high enough and the floating docks are floating free. If that’s true, there’s gonna be a LOT of damage there when the water recedes - boats and docks alike.
At Harborview, instead of walking UP from the floaters to the main pier, now you walk DOWN. The center of the main pier is under water, and the sides are within 2" or so of being submerged. He also said the parking lot is now only about 2 feet from being under water.
There’s a tall condo tower beside the marina - the one that has the big light on top. Without power, the folks on the higher floors are kinda stuck either up or down. So there’s the disadvantage of being rich enough to afford a multi-million-dollar condo on the harbor - you can’t get to it or you can’t get out of it when the juice goes off!
Still don’t know if I’ll be able to go to Balto tonight. I’m more inclined to think that I’ll be giving up my seat to someone else. We shall see…
Well, here on Capitol Hil we had one hella rainstorm, but nothing we haven’t seen this summer already. That said, I do have a huge tree down in the yard, one of 80,000 down in DC alone (no cite, heard it on NBC4 this morning). I had to cut through a piece of Rock Creek Park this morning and it was a nightmare - HUUUUGE trees down everywhere.
Other than that, no flooding, no power outages, and I went to Atomic Billiards and shot pool until about midnight - so it wasn’t that bad here.
Good luck to all those who haven’t surfaced yet.
Yeah.
RT, please write.
The only thing that happend here; the power went out for a few hours.
It was amusing, however, to see the houses one-by-one light up with candles and flashlights.
Well, if that was a hurricane, I’m Wonder Woman. We had wind gusts and NO RAIN overnight.
I talked to my mom a little while ago. She had some wind, almost no rain, and no power loss. My sister, who lives 6 miles away from Mom, lost her power, as did my brother in Timonium and my other sister in Linthicum. The 3rd sister is in Calif this week, but I’m pretty sure her house is high enough that she didn’t get flooded, and she probably didn’t lose power.
Worst Mom has to deal with is lots of leaves and twigs on her large lawn - they’ll just get mowed and mulched next week, I expect.
The Gobear household came through the storm intact, although we are currently without power. (I’m writing this from the in-laws’ house, where the bf and I have come for a hot meal and showers.) The storm blew down some trees near us, but didn’t do any real damage in our area.
Did anyone see that bizarre red and blue lightning?
We just hiked down to the Harbor here in Baltimore. This morning the fire department was rescuing folks from submerging houses and stranded cabs with boats, but the water is receding now. Still-- wow. At 11:00 this afternoon, downtown looked like the canels of Venice. We got some great photos, like of a kayaker making a right on to Calvert St. from Pratt.
We lost power and the phones (Parkville area) around 11:00 last night and got both back around 10:00 this morning.
The cable’s out, but at least it had the decency not to go out till after the Survivor premiere.

Never lost power, everything is quiet here. A mile and a half away from me some people weren’t so lucky, their houses are flooded. My brother called me this morning, he lost power at 4:10 yesterday and except for that got through the storm okay.
Reports are saying over a million customers are without power in the Washington/Baltimore area. It’s going to be a long time before all the power is back up.
In NYC now, where it is sunny and 80 degrees. Hallelujah! If it’s this nice here, how bad can it be on Long Beach Island, where my cousin’s wedding will be on Sunday?
Yeah, we’re thinking of heading to the MIL’s place tomorrow in Lancaster.
I feel silly thinking of this as a let-down.
I’m pretty happy that it was a letdown. We got a bit more wind here than you did, JC. Trees are down all over the neighborhood, but as far as I could tell, no one had a tree on their house. Plenty of trees on wires and a couple on cars though. We only had a small tree lose a major branch. I put the poor thing out of it’s misery this afternoon.
We lost power last night at 7:30pm and just got it back at 5:30pm today. I consisder that very, very lucky. Cable is out though. I think I can live with that. As soon as the water heats back up, I’m taking a shower. (Yeah!)
So, we’re still missing RT ? Who else hasn’t checked in?
