Holiday storm 2022

Unfortunately the wrong size. Very nice pattern though. I left the page open in my browser to admire it during the holiday season. Thanks for the link!

A week ago SW Michigan was near zero, today we hit 55 and most of the snow has melted.

55 in ohio, predicted warmer Tuesday.

55 here today also. Supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. The low early on the 24th was 1 below zero. (All temps F.)

This is not good for the grapes and orchards.

It seems a significant power outage in Washington state was NOT because of the weather:

I don’t think sabotage is a great thing, but I hope all these incidents are at least spurring the government to do something about the power grid.

Please. It’s so damn vulnerable.

Two men arrested and charged. Ostensibly the motive was to enable a burglary, but four substations would seem to be overkill (unless they couldn’t figure out which substation serviced the target).

Hey, @hajario

How are you, yours, and your part of the world holding up??

Wow! I am humbled that you thought of me.

That was one of the biggest storms I have experienced in my 32+ years here. My neighborhood is in a valley with a creek running through it. Despite that, we were never in any danger. Lots of downed trees and closed roads in town and at one point the 101 was closed on both sides so there was no way to leave. Amazingly, very little of town lost power and those that did it was only for twenty minutes or so.

Santa Barbara isn’t on State Water so everything comes from the desal plant or Cachuma reservoir. We were in a drought until a few days ago. The reservoir was at 31% capacity on January 1st. Now it’s at 72% and rising. The amount of water dropped was incredible. It’s beautiful and sunny right now. We have plenty of time to dry off until the next storm on Sunday which shouldn’t be as bad.

I’m so glad that despite the nearness of a creek you’re safe. I can relate a bit, a river runs by 600 feet from here but despite some pretty major flooding of the road it lines on mutiple occasions, all three houses on our little loop road are uphill so we don’t get basement flooding.
